Ive watch a couple clips on the MK II 50 and the sounds incredible! Anyone own one or play one? What can you tell me about it? Good clean, plexi type tones, and very high gain? Thanks.

I played one at Solidbody in MN and I just couldn't bond with it. The dude at the shop said it was basically the best thing since sliced bread, and while it did have a very nice tone IMO, it just had kind of a boring and uninspiring feel. :dunno: It felt kind of flat and cardboard-like and wasn't juicy at all. Played some modded and stock Marshalls and Soldanos at that shop right after and I like both much more. Just my .02.

They're not really the most fluid feeling amps but a great player sounds great on one, if that makes sense? They can sound fantastic but I can see where the flat thing comes from, definitely.

Yeah, that's what I experienced with the MKII I played. It did sound very nice when the dude working there played it, but when I played it I wasn't jivin with it. It could also have been the guitars/pups too as they weren't mine. LP's with various bareknuckles loaded in them. Could be that I just wasn't used to the guitars. :dunno:
Great tone either way.

I had an MK50.

Ended up getting rid of it, but I wouldn't mind having another.

I definitely understand the "not the most fluid amp" comment, but they're VERY responsive and sound fantastic.

They remimd me a lot of a SLO, but they're a bit warmer, with a bit more in the low mids.

All in all, a killer amp....hell....just gave myself a small GAS bubble :D

I have an MK50H. I use an OD boost with it and it sounds great. I boost all of my amps. If you have played an SLO they are similar. The Cornford is nowhere near as bright as the SLO which to me is very bright. Where as the SLO cuts more with it's upper mids, the MK actually cuts more with the treble frequecies. It has a very unique tone. Geat feel. It is necessary to get rid of the JJ tubes in it. Makes a world of difference. The low end is not super tight either, but not in a bad way. For metal I would look elsewhere although it can do the 80's stuff fine. It's also a more open sounding amp. It's very unique and I really dig it. A good player can sound great on it as said before because it allows you to express yourself and will show up your mistakes.

I'd like to try another one with one of my guitars, or a guitar with a familiar pickup so I could make a fair assessment.

People will always have different opinions of course but for me my Cornford mk50 is the best amp i have had!

In the last couple of years i have gone from a Splawn quickrod--Mesa dual rec--Blackstar series 1 100--Axe-fx standard--Cornford mk50!

Very happy with it. :)

I have heard numerous times the MK50H has a better tone than the MKII which is a little smoother. I have also heard the clean channel is outstanding. I roll off my volume when I need clean tones.

If you have good technique, the Cornford MK50 II will reward you...if you're used to playing on really compressed/ liquid Bogner/Boogie type amps the Cornford will expose holes in your playing....they are pretty unforgiving amps. It took a while to get used to mine but I came from a stock cranked plexi so I was used to having to work for it a bit.

They have their own thing happening, but you can get a great plexi type tone at a reasonable volume by running the gain a little higher and the boost function off and engaging the boost for leads. Very cool amp if you give yourself time to get used to it.

Cool, thanks guys. Last questions Elmwood M-90 or Cornford MK II? I do metal but if I had one tone that I love the most it would be VH-ish.

No question for me personally, I'd take the Cornford all day.

I think the better comparison would be Elmo M60 vice 90...M60 has EL 34s rather than KT88s that the 90 has.

At any rate, personally I think the M60 is better suited for EVH, though you couldn't really go wrong either way...

The Cornford is not the best VH type amp. There are amps out there that can do VH better but it doesn't mean it's a better amp. The MK is a little refined , but in a good way.
