Anyone see the 5-option SLO on Reverb last night?

Someone posted a less than 1 year old SLO, five-option, on Reverb last night for ~$2800. I was going to check it this morning and of course it was long gone.

That was a $5000 amp bought from BCM. Dang it.

I don't know how to pull up sold ads on Reverb or I'd send the link.

What does the 5 option mean?

Warren Haynes option is a bright cut switch on the Overdrive Channel and only works at pregain settings less than 4. When you lower the pregain setting, the bright cut is more apparent.

The Scoop option is a 420 +/- hertz cut to the Mids only on the Normal Channel when using Clean or Crunch.

The Depth option is a resonance control for frequencies below the Bass settings and is available on either channel.

1/2 power switch changes the amp to either 50 or 100 watts output.

Effects loop bypas switch is located between V3 and V4 preamp tubes on top of the chassis. It engages or disengages the effects loop to or from the circuit.

MSRP $5,750

Easy enough to install those mods yourself. No point in paying Soldano $1,600 to do it. WH mod just removes a bright cap. Easy. All you need is a switch. Scoop option, again just a switch and a few 50-cent parts. Depth is a a pot and two caps. Maybe $5. Same thing for the others. In total... maybe $15 in parts and about 2-3 hours of your time. I know not everybody is tech savvy, but man... $1,600 seems like a lot to do these mods. Maybe I'm in the wrong line of work hahaha!

Just like buying a car...all the money's in the options.

The cost of living in Seattle is pretty high. How else is he gonna pay for his overhead? ;)

46&2 if you were here in Dallas you would have me as a steady customer. Your work is so insanely clean!

And I'd only charge $1,000. Compared to the going rate, that's a steal ;)

Should be a 6-option (available) where they hardwire the original loop and install a SS loop between masters and PI. Even then it'd be too much $$$.

I think Bruce Egnater does this exact mod which supposedly kills, though I have no personal experience with it.

I've seen this repeated over and over on numerous forums and I just don't get it. I picked up a 93 SLO100 recently that didn't sound the way I expected. Once I figured out that the bright cap on the overdrive channel had been removed, and replaced it, BAM! there it was. All the SLO goodness I was expecting.
The poster above did say that the bright cap is less apparent at lower volumes, but I can assure you, at least with my amp, that the bright cap has a significant effect on the tone at just about any gain setting. The amp sounds completely neutered without that cap.
I also removed a depth mod while I was at it, and the amp now sounds absolutely stellar.
I guess I'm in the camp that thinks the SLO100 sounds best stock. :dunno:

One other thing I discovered was not to use New Sensor 12ax7's with the spiral filaments in V3 & V4 of the SLO, which are both cathode followers. When I got the amp, it had all Tung Sol's in the preamp, and it hummed like crazy. Figured since it was a 93, it needed filter caps, but swapping out the Tung Sols fixed the issue.

The bright lets more highs through the more you turn the gain down. When it's on 10, it's effectively out of the circuit and does absolutely nothing. I really don't get the statement "only works when the gain is less than 4". It works all the way up to 9.9999, although less and less the higher your gain setting is.

Dude, I've seen you with some killer gear. What kind of amps do you keep now?

Right now I'm BE100 and an assortment of Bogner cabs with various Scumbacks. That's my session rig. My grab n' go is a Katana 100 combo that honestly smokes. My Telecaster through that thing just sounds killer. My practice rig is all pedals and is rooted in a Catalinbread DLSIII.

I've had some killer stuff but try to keep it at one nice head at a time.
