Anyone still using a Duncan Custom?

Always loved that pickup, but I have not owned one for years. Thinking about trying out that oldie but goodie again. Thoughts?
 
What are you putting it in? I love them myself. I also dig the Custom-Custom and the Custom-5
 
I've run the SH-5 since 1995.
I have the Duncan Custom & 59' combo in both my Les Paul's. :rock:
 
I'm looking at that one as well for my LP and their Hybrid Custom/59 pickup as well. That looks pretty cool.
 
I have a Custom in the neck of a LP and Custom custom in an ash strat. Both are great.
 
Not the regular Custom but the Custom 5, it's my go to pickup. When I don't want to mess around and try a new pickup and just want something I know works I go with the Custom 5.
 
I love the Custom.

I also love the 59/Custom Hybrid for an EVH vibe.
 
I have a Custom in my McCarty. Great medium output ceramic raw tone that cleans up well.
 
Can't believe I haven't tried one yet actually sounds right up my alley. :lol: :LOL:

it used to be my favorite duncan, but now I can't stand its absurd amount of compression
try a ceramic nailbomb
similar voicing, but much greater articulation
expensive, but totally worth it

 
It's a great pickup...I've probably used it more than any other Duncan over the years. That said, it seems to be a bit "fussy" over which guitars it sounds good in...I can't imagine finding a pickup that sounds worse in my LP Custom (and I tried 3 different ones in there).

And FWIW, "absurd amount of compression" is not a way that I would ever describe it in my experience (which is significant)...in fact, I feel it's more open sounding than most of the high-output humbuckers that I've used which is what drew me to it in the first place (I primarily used JBs and Distortions before I discovered the Custom).

well, those two are even more compressed
guess my compression tolerance went really low after 6 years using BKP's
I still can enjoy some of the lower output models (except the '59)

I agree with it being picky. Sounds great in my Mammoth Custom but not as good in my Gibson V.

Still sounds good enough in the Gibby to keep it but the Mammoth sounds a bit fuller for some reason. Probably due to the route for the electronics being much bigger in the Gibby whereas the Mammoth is a solid neck-thru.
