Not a bad sounding amp! Essentially sounds like an 800 with a bit more drive but i like the two volumes so that you can boost your vol up for a lead. The downside is that the amp would still likely need an OD for heavier tones. Just wondered if anyone has played one who is familiar with the older JMP and 800's and can compare the tone? Is it bright like an 800 or is it a little fatter low/mid oriented? I like my 4140 but lately have been interested in an amp that is a bit different.. the 6534+ also looks interesting, any word on how it does classic crunch to 80's sunset strip would also be interesting to hear if anyone has played one. I'm thinking the EL34 tone might be a bit closer to what my ear likes over 6L6..

Didn't realize these actually made it to market. They were announced like 2 years ago but almost no press about them. Sounds pretty darn good in that vid.

I played one and it sounded identical to my JSX but with a little less oomph. For the money , I say find a used JSX

Wasn't the JSX the Satriani inspired Peavey? Similar to what his JVM then became.. based on an 800 but hotrodded?

IF I'M NOT MISTAKEN THE 6534+ IS A "XXX" WITH A FACE LIFT,..WHICH ISNT A BAD THING,..I THINK THERE'S A LOT-A BANG FOR THE BUCK WITH THE HIGH GAIN PEAVEYS,...AND MOST OF THEM ARE BASED OFF OF THE MARSHALL PLATFORM-(VTM-ULTRA-5150'S-6505'S-JSX-XXX-)

OOOPS......sorry bout the caps!

3120 is the face-lifted XXX...6534+ is a 6505+ with EL34 instead of 6L6.

for the money I'd buy a 6505 variant before the "Butcher" - terrible name not withstanding

From what I understand, the JSX became the XXXII, the XXX became the 3120 with EL34's, and the 6534 is just a 5150 w/ EL34s and preamp tweaks. The Butcher is the JSX 50w that never made it to production.

Sneaky bastards over at peavey! That said, the 6534+ interests me.

That's interesting to see what those amps became. Didn't know the Butcher was the JSX 50. The original Butcher was basically Peavey's first attempt at a hot rod Marshall...that evolved into the VTM series.

I know originally Ultra 120 was the inspiration for the XXX. Lynch had been messing around with the Ultra 120, got involved with Peavey and they designed the XXX. Peavey was all set to go as the XXX being George's sig head...I even saw the advertising for it at NAMM in Nashville that year...then George/Peavey for whatever reason pulled his name of it.

The JSX was Joe's refinement of the XXX...like what he's done with the stock JVM and the Satch model but all of them go back to the Ultra 120.

Nice summary  Its hard to keep all these amp models straight....

Peavey Ultra>Ultra +> Jsx> the rest. Check out an Ultra, add a boost, sick.....

The original Butcher was essentially a JCm800 with a hotter biased 2nd preamp stage and 6L6's. Not sure what changes they made for the new one.

For those curious, here's the JSX 50 that never went into production, then the 'new' Butcher

I bought the Butcher a few weeks ago - it seems Peavey Europe just wants to get rid of all stuff which has not been sold in the last two years. It cost me less than 600 Euro so this was a no-brainer...

After testing it in the rehearsal room with good results from the very beginning I am working on it at home with a Mesa Cab Clone to get used to it. My main problem is that I cannot believe that this really good amp has no reputation at all - for me it is one of the most underestimated amps in the last decades. It is a great working horse with some British influences - I guess you'll find some near tones to JVM 410 and JCM 800.

First we made a shoot out with our amps we use for years now - Diezel VH4 & Mesa Stiletto ACE (and Rect-O-Verb 25 at home). Well, I still like my VH4 better (which is a complete different amp...) but the Butcher performed awesome. Referring to the price I have to conclude that this one of my best deals ever.

After getting it I started to collect information and I learned that this amp seems to be the (unbeloved?) result of the cooperation Joe Satriani/Peavey, which ended before this amp could be released as JSX50.

Well - I don't mind, this is a great amp with a great range. With the help of a good distortion even 7-string highgain sounds are no problem. I tested several pedals (from budget up to the reissue of the 808 TS from Ibanez) and prefer the Fulltone OCD.

One of my first tube amps was an Ultra 60. Still one of the best bang-for-the-bucks amps I have ever owned.

There is a comparison video of the Peavey Butcher, 3120, XXX II, 6534+ and 6505
