Anyone try 6550's in a JSX?

Thinking about swapping the stock JJ EL34's in the Peavey JSX for 6550's, just to give it a try, never have used these tubes before.
Hoping for a little more full and stiff low end, which from the description and comparison of the 6550 to the EL34, it should deliver.

Anyone try this before?

I had them in an fja modded jsx and did not like them. Tried 3 different brands. Went back to 6L6 And was happy

What didn't you like about them vs the 6l6?

From what I remember, they were to grainy and lacked some warmth compared to the 6L6. Also they were too open sounding compared to the 6L6. My opinion

Tried KT77's and liked, but I'm specifically asking about 6550's.
Thanks for the replies.

Anyone else?

I tried them (JJ and Sovtek) in several amps, D60, 20th Anny Shiva, Savage 120 and didn't care for them TBH. Stiff response and somewhat harsh, at least in those amps.

Same here. Couldn't get them out of my amp fast enough. If I had to choose a big bottle tube, I prefer the character of KT88s.

I have a JSX with 6550’s ... I prefer them to any other tube in that amp. Beefy tubes with tons of headroom and big tight lows while retaining a snarling midrange and smoother highs than a regular el34

KT77's belong in the JSX. Period.

this^ I had 2 JSX's in the past and KT-77's by far wee the best tube in that amp.
