Cobalts are awesome for me. They just feel right. A little dry perhaps, but they FEEL right, and they settle in much faster than nickel. And ya, the longevity factor too.
I have the cobalts on a few axes and I really like them. I find them also to be a bit more powerful sounding and they do last well. I do not like them on my single coil guitars though as they kinda ruin the mood on them.
used to be a die hard d'addario guy and hated ernie ball strings (found them lifeless). Until I was in a pinch and grabbed a set of colbalts from a shop that did not have my brand. Totally worth it. I can see how some people may not gel with it but the clarity is there even through high gainers I have note separation which for me is a big plus and added acoustic volume is nice. I use low output pickups so maybe there is a sonic match there.
I compared a set of cobalt Power Slinkys vs normal set and found that the cobalts last a bit longer. They also had a bit more heaviness. The trade off is the feel is just strange. They weren't as fluid as the normal set.
Love them! I agree with all descriptions on volume, tone, feel, and longevity. Except for whomever said they feel crusty Dare I say they sound more modern? 10 bucks. You're trying 'em.
I've been using them for about 10 months now and I like them a lot. The Titanium coated ones I used previous would get sticky and didn't feel right after a couple of weeks. These, don't! They last and continue to sound great.
