Anyone Using a 4x12 Stereo Cab?

If you don't live under a rock, you probably know I've been trying to sell an Uberkab since Jesus was a baby. Since it looks like it won't be going anywhere soon, I've been thinking about getting an aftermarket 4x12 stereo/mono jack plate and installing it on this cab. This way, without changing anything, I could have 2 separate 8 ohm inputs and run my Mark V:25 in stereo.

I've never used a singular "stereo" cabinet before. I won't be gigging with it. It'll just be used in my small studio/office. Would I get a decent stereo image out of the same box?

Thanks.
Dave

I've had the Marshall versions, not impressed with the stereo separation, but really unimpressed with the Marshall jackplate/pcb assy, I've had them poop out on me twice, so I took them out and hardwired the whole cab as mono. Not really wide enough stereo field to make you smile, and if you are anywhere but directly in front of it, it was basically nonexistant. It may be slightly better sitting in front of it in your office and not moving around so much, but I ended up ditching all of the pcb stereo jackplates for hard wired.
Your mileage may vary
Sorry

I have a couple mono/stereo cabs, doesn't sound much different. I'll trade u some stereo cabs for your Uberkab :)

My diezel cab is stereo for the VH4S. I find it more useful for two amps or a true stereo amp. That way there is tonal seperation from side to side. A mono amp run into both inputs would be different in the sense that splitting a 16 ohm mono input into two 8 ohm inputs will actually give you a 4 ohm load so running a mono head would be better to wire it for 1, 4 ohm input I think...

That being said I'm running all Bogner heads now, I'll trade you my stereo diezel front loader for your uber... I even have 2 V30s and 2 75s in my diezel...

Thanks for the input guys. If I can't just sell it out right, I'll end up keeping it. Was hoping to sell so I can order a matching cab from Mesa for Mark V:25.

I've got a stereo Randall cab. I like being able to use it at 16 ohms mono for tube amps, then use the 2-8ohm inputs in stereo to run my old SS Randalls at 4 ohms. Those amps sound much better/punchier at 4. The only actual "stereo" use I've tried it for was with an old amp that had stereo chorus. Sounded ok in stereo, but nothing amazing since the speakers are so close together. It's mostly just a useful ohm divider for me.

I considered being able to run the 2 8 ohm loads off of the 4 ohm jacks on the Mark in mono to get that extra punch too. I know I can run it in 16ohms as a safe mismatch from the Mark's 8 ohm jack too. I even have a Weber Z-matcher that let's the amp see an 8 ohm load from the cab. Plus, that gives me a line out if I wanted to run a wet cab.

I may just get a Mesa 2x12 or 1x12 and use the Bogner as 2nd cab for stereo. Might look a little lop-sided but it would work fine.

Well, sticking one mono amp into two sides of a cab isn´t really stereo. If you did have stereo going on it´s a very different story, because even if separate cabs is better for the wide spread in the room doing it with a split 4x12" is perfectly fine and works like a charm for recording.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I was just pointing out that I could use it as dual mono as well.

I find it to be a moot point most times. The magic happens when you can separate cabs and get creative that way. I never had much benefit from splitting up the same cabinet.

They're convenient for touring players.
Warren Haynes has used them for years. Two heads and one cab. Easy set-up, takes less space on stage.

Of course he's not running stereo.

I ran 2 different heads into a Splawn 4x12 split into stereo once. Was not a fan. Just didn't sound great. Keep in mind that I was normally running 2 4x12 cab when I tried this, so I was used to that sound. You'd be much better off with a second cab of any type IMO. I run a semi wet/dry rig. All modulation out front of both sides, verb/delay only on the one side. I think having 2 amps frequencies bouncing around in the same box isn't a great thing. If the cab was split with a "wall" between the 2 sides it's probably better. I certainly can't say Warren's rig sounds bad, it must work for him! Just didn't work well for me at all.

I guess my results were different than most.....a couple years ago I was running into a Lehle Little Dual, out to a Fortin Cali and an Elmwood M60, both hooked up to a Marshall Vintage stereo cab which had V30s and Heritage 30s in an X pattern, and thought it sounded f*&$@*%#g huge!!!
