Anyone using the Tech 21 SansAmp pedals?

only pedal i've ever used, and still use, is the Bass Driver DI.
i've always wanted to try more of their stuff because that pedal is pretty much a staple of my bass rig. i've owned it for 7 years and it's not going anywhere.

THIS ^^^^ I run it into a Universal Audio LA610 preamp, it sounds massive for recording  never used the guitar stuff

damn! i bet that sounds killer man. you got any clips of just bass using that setup?

i'm going to be recording some stuff soon and i'm thinking about going bass straight into my mesa 400+ and miking a 6x10 ampeg cab, then running the line out of the bass 400+ into the sansamp and run that straight into my PODxt for a cab simulation. so i've got a clean miked sound and a straight in distorted tone.

I do, but have never figured out how to transfer files from Pro-Tools to the forum   I'm an idiot on a computer   That would be a cool thing to try, I tried to use the direct output from my SWR with the Sansamp going in, but it was noisy for some reason. In the end, doing it direct out of the LA610 just sounded much better and was ultra quiet. I just cant say enough good things about that mic-preamp, I need 8 more of them   We got some great results micing the cabs up with a AKG D112, but the 610 still sounded better ;) Have you tried the sansamp as a boost into the boogie?, we tried it that way into the SWR and it was KILLER, we just could not find a way around the noise issue  I have a Jazz bass that sounds great, but the most killer tone was with a friends Rickenbacker, that thing sounded unbelievable, very similar to Chris Squiers tone from the Yes albums

could you just export the bass track itself as an audio file from Pro-Tools? i couldn't help you as i've never used PT before.

I actually do use the sansamp as a boost if im playing live. i was just thinking about doing that for the recording so i could have a dry, punchy miked tone and then run the same preamp signal into the sansamp, and possibly other effects, for my wet tone and then blend the two together for a huge sound...hopefully

i'm a big fan of justin chancellor from Tool and i know they do a ton of blending of signals when they record.

Dunno, I have not even messed with that part of it in awhile, I'll give it a look, I need to figure that out to post some stuff. Yeah, Justins tone on the Tool albums is unbelievable ;)

I've used the GT-2 for years. For recording it works pretty good, especially if you throw some ambient effects on it. I've had great results live direct into a pa or into a big power amp/ speaker combination. So it's a pretty versatile tool. Here's an awesome demo by Carl Roa using the some Sansamp pedals...

I have a BDDI as well. I always see keeping that pedal around as a bass "rig".

I had a PSA-1 years ago.

I've used an original SansAmp as a core element of my rig for at least 15 years now. It's built like a tank. It's been tossed in and out of bags with my crybaby, huge eq pedal, and numerous other boxes. It looks beat to hell, and the only problem I've ever had are numerous dying batteries from too much use, and it's now got scratchy pots. I need to get them cleaned up, but I'm afraid it would be like cleaning off the mojo.

Anyway, it's very flexible, can serve as a clean boost, over drive, distortion, or di. I use mine as a volume/mid boost in front of my Mesa Tremoverb to push my clean channel into a thicker breakup with a little extra drive on the lows, or to push my gain channel which I set for a nice punchy cutting tone into thicker and chewier saturation with a different eq. I use the rhythm setting on the SansAmp most, even for leads, as it thickens up the tone nicely without mudding it up.

When my buddy comes over to jam I let him use it in front of my other amp (KMD XV100SD), and he plugs it into the clean channel using the SansAmp as a second channel. It sounds great for the heavy rock and metal stuff we tend to play (Sabbath, AC/DC, Clutch, Metallica), retaining a nice amp like character and melding with the amps voicing well. When I used it in front of another friends Ampeg VT22 I set it to the "Boogie" settings in the manual, and had dead on Satanna tone quicker than you can say Abraxis. It will also impart a great tubelike vibe to SS amps, but doesn't give the full deal because of the inherent dynamic character of SS power amps.

The buffer is excellent, and really helps when I run a couple of my pedals with questionable bypasses up front, preserving the high end nicely, and making sure a good signal gets through 27' of cable 3 or 4 pedals.

I've used it direct, but only once, and was not happy with the stand alone tone. Given more time and tricks it is something to work with for layering, and possibly some stand alone tones as well.

I know it may not be functional for you if volume is an issue, but wouldn't you usually go for the growl of an overdriven tube rig to mic, and a clean direct tone.

I had one.

I regretted buying it. It literally sounded like a beehive no matter how I used it.

I sold it thank goodness.

But for a loss  .
