Anything from Marshall at summer NAMM?

It would cost Marshall about $10 in parts to do a Mod 5 w/ PPIMV on a 1987/1959 reissue, and they would have a modded Plexi to sell! But instead they wind up with amps like the JVM with too much gain, tubes on the boards, plastic shafted pots.

That's sad.

And my favorite amp I've ever owned. And I've owned a ton of the renowned high gainers. I'm certainly not defending the build of the amp but I've never had a problem in all the gigs, rehearsals and recordings I've used it on. Obviously people's mileage varies but it's been a great one for me. Hey, I'd love to see Marshall get serious and essentially offer out of the box modded platforms and keep it within a reasonable price point. On the other hand I'm sure alot of companies are glad they haven't yet.

I grew up wanting a Marshall stack. All of the bands that I grew up listening to played them. Or at least back lined them at their shows. They were the image of rock. Bought my first Marshall when I was 22. It was a JCM900. Loved that amp until I discovered amp forums...lol! These days I am more than happy with my Splawn. Looks like a plexi and sounds like I've always wanted a Marshall to sound. I agree that they have really missed the mark with their amps over the past 15-20 years. The DSL had promise. Surely at some point they could have come up with a killer classic sounding modded amp... but I've stopped looking for them to do that. They have had the resources to bring in a good designer and do a great amp for years. They have chosen not to do that. On top of it all, they can no longer build the classics like they used to. It shouldn't be difficult for Marshall to offer a great sounding amp for under the $2k price point.

Hell i remember in the 90's & 2000's when DSL's were over $2K new.

I see them every week for $400 to $600 now.

Not in the 90's but something changed in the 2K's for sure. Exchange rate BS excuse or something. In the 90's you were still getting those for around 1K. Dual Rec's were $1299 in the mid/late 90's and the DSL's were less. At least from what I remember from working in a store that sold both back then.

I love Marshall and was really interested in the satriani JVM, but haven't heard enough good things about it to pay up for one. I'd like to see more opinions on that amp

They didn't release a Marshall fidget spinner? Maybe Marshall adult diapers so they can remind everyone how far they've slipped into the shitter.

I used to get AMS , GC & MF catalogs and look at the DSL's going for $2K and could never figure why they cost so much.

Now they're everywhere, i have passed on 4 this year because they're pre 2005 with the dreaded bias drift issue boards.

I snagged a 2006 brand new from a friend for $600 4 years ago and love it.

If they actually made something people wanted, they'd still screw it up by building it with the cheapest parts they can source out....None of those cost-savings would get passed on to the consumer, of course.

They should have contracted with Friedman back when he was only doing mods...

Absolutely, and now its too late.

In a similar story, I wonder if Celestion regrets telling Jim of Scumback speakers to go elsewhere.

Maybe Marshall could reissue the AFD and YJM , but without the celebrity endorsement and at a better price .

I love these two amps. Standards. If they did that mod and eliminated the need for a gain pedal, had the loop, I might actually buy a new amp after decades.

I agree they should be able to do a great rodded Marshall. Hell, I'd settle for a slightly tweaked Shredmaster pedal reissue.

That decision has cost them a few bucks. LOL They didn't think there was a market for the tone I wanted. I've shipped 25,000 plus speakers now in 13 years, and they've since brought out their "Heritage" and "Creamback" lines to compete. My guess is they figured out there was a market after all. LOL

They did have a "Super 800" prototype back January but for some reason it got shelved.

This is an interesting point... was the "tone you wanted" one that blunted high end and accentuated frequencies for the home player? curious as to your initial motivation.

No, just the old pre rola Greenback G12M/G12H30 tones from 1966-74. They sounded the best to me
with the amps I was using.

Those originals sound pretty bright to me right? at least the ones Ive heard in person... I like them
