Well, my Arcane Mr. Scary set finally arrived. I dropped them into my Charvel SoCal. I will have to say that these are very versatile pickups. The humbucker has plenty of bark and bite to it. It sounds huge without being overly compressed. The neck single-coil is very early 60s sounding. The below clip in through my Kemper Stage using a Soldano SLO100 profile that I found on the rig exchange. I thought it sounded pretty good. Anyway... apologies for the sloppy playing....

Great tones, great chops, but a little sad you didn't actually play Mr Scary :(

That's great you finally got it......:2thumbsup: It sounds good! That pickup spec is about 13K and an AlNico 8 magnet?

May I ask what your delay settings are on your Kemper as your delay sits nicely in the mix? Delay time, feedback and mix level?

Spec sheet says Alnico 8. 13.5k

Delay settings:

Legacy Delay
Mix: 70.7%
Note Value 1: 4/16 (1/4)
Note Value 2: 3/16 (1/8dot)
Feedback: 30%
Bandwidth: 1.1
Frequency: -2.3
Modulation: 0.0
Ducking: +0.9

I only had the left side plugged into the camera, so you were missing the dotted 1/8th.

Is there ms delay time associated with the setting?

Sounds pretty good to me. I think that I would like that pickup quite a bit!

What's the EQ curve look like on these things? PAF based?

His website is lacking in detail and he's not overly responsive via email.

When I had one I remember it being very thick, beefy, huge low mids, big low end, smooth-ish highs, but not lacking, that hollow-ish midrange that Alnico 8 magnets have IME. Not much overlap with the paf sound IME. The Tone Nerd W8 (wicked) I believe was based off it and sounds similar to how I recall the Mr Scary sounding. It's a cool pickup, but enjoyed some others more for my preferences

I have that same pickup set but need another guitar to drop them in soon! Sounds great in your video and i heard some Lynch Mob Slow Drag in there too. Good stuff!

Sounds.good man, congrats. I have an Arcane "13" in an alder super strat and it's cool. I think the 13 and Mr Scary are the same or if not very similar...13k wind, A8.

Like others said...big low end, but that can be tamed by lowering pickup and bass on amp. I really like it...juicy, bouncy fun for riffing and solos. It's also pretty versatile. I've had it in the same guitar for over 5 years and have not wanted to change.

It's great for Lynch tones and harmonics...to me the Mr Scary / 13 is like a Screamin Demon...with a higher wind and alnico 8. So sort of a blend of George's old pickups...Demon and DD / Hunter, but substituting A8 for Ceramic, with a wind that sort of splits the difference (13k vs c.10k Demon and 16k DD). I will say, it doesn't disappoint like the Demon though (I love the DD for what it is).

I’ve called Arcane in the past since I was confused about some pickup models and he told me the 13 and Mr Scary are the same pickup and a few others I was confused about the names of were also the same models. I wish he just stuck to one name for each model lol

All I know is that I am really enjoying this pickup set. And for a small shop, I found his prices to be reasonable. He actually texted me to apologize for the long wait time. And had the pickups on the next day. So, I can't complain too much.

Makes sense...well sort of, haha. I was looking at the Powerdozer / Killdozer / XVI /16 as well... guess some days he feels powerful and others deadly and sometimes numerically roman. So the 13 is Mr Scary, thanks

Not sure about that one, but I had this other model I think he called the Bulldozer. It was Alnico 8 and also pretty good. Liked it I think just a little more than the Mr Scary

Haha, I think that's the powerdozer...a8, 16k wind. Bulldozer is a5 I think. Yeah he needs to work on names lol. I have one on deck for something...maybe my cantrell g&l, but jb works fine in that.
Glad to hear it's cool. What did you like more about it?

Ah you might be right then lol. I thought he said it was A8 and 16k. I just remember it seeming similar-ish to the Mr Scary, but like with more of everything if that makes sense, also iirc tighter, more mids, punch, and growl. The Mr Scary may have sounded a bit fatter in the low mids though, hard to say. It's been years now. I ultimately though liked other pickups more than Arcane since in my long journey lol, but I thought they were pretty good overall
