are ceriatone amps generally well regarded?

It seems people think they sound as good as the real thing, but how's the reliability?

or the resale value?

there not bad at all. As long as they are built well (better yet built by nik) you can sell them about a $100 less then what they would set you back new. I think there was a dumble clone that actually went for more then new price on ebay not too long ago.

I'd probably go with either the 1987 plexi or the 2204 jcm clones

Are you planning to build it yourself?

I got the 1987 without transformers and put it together myself. As far as the chassis and board, seemed great to me. I had Roy Blankenship check it out before I started putting it together and the only thing he suggested to me was put in some Sozo signal caps. I put it together, used MM transformers, sounds as good if not better than any other plexi I ever heard (I did do some tweaking on the stock circuit).

i would love to have one, but after pricing it, and checking the shipping rate-I'd be better off buying a used marshall.

I've been back and forth about the DC30 clone for a couple years now. Maybe with next years tax returns...

I recently bagged a Ceriatone 2204 clone off of eBay. Probably one of the best sounding JCM 800's I have ever played. This one was built by Nik and the build quality is pretty damn good.

It's got some hefty transformers/choke on it, but I'm not sure how they would compare to the original ones in a Marshall or after market ones like Heyboer, MM, etc.

i bid on one earlier (1987 plexi)
ended while i was in class. didn't win

went for 565 plus shipping

what does this mean? Who else builds them?

Im curious as i have one. And when i got it i got my amp tech to put the power tubes in that i had here and when i went to pick it up a resistor wasn't even solieded on? I mean it just didn't work, so he checked it and found this to be the case. I thought that was pretty poor.

BUT in saying that. Its great for the few times ive played it (been in a apt ever since i got it  ho[efully for not much longer)

My other friend had a problem with his too straight away. But after a repair its pefect now for him.

All this aside i think its a great clone for VERY cheap.

And the shells look excellent

I have heard really good things about them but I would rather just buy a marshall. If it aint broke...

Nik sells them as kits as well, so anyone could of built the one you got. I dont know if nik puts any kind of tag on them to indicate if he built them or not though.

I thought you just picked it up used or something. I must have misunderstood what you were saying due to the post your were responding too. That sucks it wasnt in working order when you got it.

But now that we have that out the way.

Yeah it does suck. But lucky wasnt anything big to fix. So do you know if Nik puts them all togther? doubt it with all his orders
