Are our rigs proportionate to our talent?

"Also, if badass rigs equaled talent, this site would have some of the best guitarist around."

Are our rigs, and guitar/amp collections directly proportional to our individual talents, or are we way more loaded than we are skilled? šŸ˜†

In my case, i am all gear/all hack

No. Fucking. Way.

Think of the gear the pros use…collective gear forum people have the pros beat by a multiple of 10x

Not to mention one of the best quotes in Tonetalk history:

ā€œIf our businesses depended on selling gear to professional musicians, we would have gone out of business a long time ago.ā€ - John Suhr

I wish we could have everyone that takes pictures of their gear/and posts NAD or NGD make clips. I have been saying it for years. It is strange not to make clips on a guitar site. If I feel no embarrassment posting my shitty clips, i dont understand why others do.

Especially in the case of @VonBonfire
I feel like there are a lot of guys on this website with more gear than talent. But he isn't one of them. Killer guitar player.

But when you argue to the ends of earth about tone and don't post clips, people may think you can't play a lick.

I had a crappy tiny solid state peavey for years while i learned how to play guitar as a kid.

I'm not the greatest guitarist of course but the gear came second to learning how to play.

There's my guys locally here who have amazing gear and can't play a note.
Never put in the time to learn, they're more collectors than guitarists.

Whatever makes you happy though

My rigs are better than I am now; I don't practice like I did back in the day, and I didn't have arthritis then either, and I was playing live gigs on the local club circuit...

I have much better gear now, but my playing is not as good as it was.

The bigger the rig and the more guitars always equals less talent around my way, seen some killer players walk up with an ok guitar and a shitty amp and blow the doors off the venue. All in what you want I guess.

I resemble that remark, kinda. I just do it for a hobby now, not a driving passion like it was when I was younger, these days I prefer keys over guitar.

No it’s not. In my case anyway. But I also don’t have near the expensive gear a lot of the guys here have.

when I was young, driven, passionate and playing all the time I didn't have the money for much of the gear I really wanted.

Now I have money for most of the gear I want, I no longer have youth, drive or passion, and my playing isn't as good as it was.

A trick of fate.
