Are Petrucci fanboys pushing up Mark IV prices?

I just saw a used Mark IV sell for $1675, and add $50 shipping ontop of that. That's crazy when they normally sold for $1100 used.

I also notice Mark III prices going up a little.

I still stand behind my statement: 90% of Mark IV owners are JP fanboys. Others appreciate Mark IV for what a great amp it is. Once JP changes to another Mesa gear, I SWEAR ebay is gonna flood with Mark IV's going for $1100.

I find it so funny when some kid tries to convince me that he owns EBMM JP signature and Mark IV just cause they are awesome gear and not cause JP uses them. Next thing, you see 3984348 clips from the same kid trying to play dt stuff

And about the fanboy thing... I won't deny that the fact Petrucci has used a Mark IV influenced my decision, but so did a slew of guys on here giving it great reviews. The fact that JP uses it now has nothing to do with me still owning it, and I kinda wish he would stop using it so I didn't look like such a bad fanboy. FWIW, I didn't buy one to coincide with JP using them this time, I've wanted one since I heard the "An Evening With" album 3 years or so ago.

Second Edit: And I won't "try to convince" you that I use an EBMM and Mark IV because they're great pieces of gear, but they... are...

I agree. I'm surprised by the increase in price. I bought my Mark IV for $975.00 on HC 2 years ago. I sold it for $1200 (custom color). I'm seeing custom Mark IV's sell for $1600-1700 now and that's not even hardwood.

I bought my mark IV in 2001, long before I even knew who JP was. My buddy has a mark IV and I think he bought it more as a Santana fanboy.

Another friend of mine is looking into a mark IV and is not a JP fanboy. At least around here Dream Theater is not really that popular. If they are driving up the prices, great for me, only bad thing is I don't even plan on selling mine....

Ummm....didnt he use IIc+ to get his original tone? the big giant rack of death that supported Images an Words? Could be wrong, but I thought it was like 2 of those an a III.... but WTF do I remember.....

We're talking about current gear. IIC+ will never go cheaper regardless of JP using it or not. Cause there's the Metallica factor (LOL) and overall OMGITZDISCONTINUEDSOITZTHEBESTEVAHRARE=BEST hype following the IIC+. While Mark III owners are laughing their asses off since they can get very similar tones for fraction of the price.

My point is, JP fanboys usually sell whatever JP drops using to buy his next gear to call it OMGZORZBESTGEARZEVAH.

I will say that his tone (Petrucci's IIC+ rig) originally inspired me to check out a Mark IV about 5 years ago. Played around and I just didn't jive with it. Went through several amps in the meantime (Line 6 HD-147, Vetta, Vetta II, 5150II, Triple XXX, Engl Powerball, Engl SE and VHT CLX). Tried several Bogner amps as well. Finally came back to the Mark IV because of Danyeo and Psychodave's clips posted here on the forum. Paired it up with a Bogner 2x12 and I have been happy ever since. I wouldn't say that my playing or tone sounds anything like Petrucci. Either way, who really cares anyways. Everyone is influenced by someone or something. Who cares if it is Petrucci or some part of his rig. Guitars typically depreciate anyways. The amps popularity doesn't stop that.

Dude I bought a MK4 years before I ever heard of DT. It was '91 when I bought it and I still have it. I don't even like JP or DT.
