Are these Ibanez going for this much now? Because of EVH?

Pricing on everything on the Planet is inflated and all screwed up right now.
I called a national music gear chain about a VooDoo Labs vibe pedal for $140 bucks they were asking.
I offered a $230 pedal in trade [plenty of profit for them].
They based the value of my pedal from the lowest price paid on Reverb for the same pedal which isn't accurate.
They offered me $70 trade-in value for my pedal. I said sorry can't do that.
Then i offered to throw in another $130 pedal on top of my $230 pedal.
Wasn't really going to do it but wanted to see what they'd say.
He offered me basically $100 for both pedals trade-in and still wanted me to cough up $40 bucks.
And by their logic that VooDoo Labs vibe pedal sold for $100 on the verb.
Then i left a google review about their fuzzy made up math and they denied the whole thing.
Right now is the worst possible time to buy anything retail.
My advice, wait til March.
And Ibanez copy guitar are not a good investment period.

Trying to trade with national chains is pointless and has been this way forever. They give you 30% of your gears value, and it has been this way for decades. Why can't people understand this?

Retailers and resellers have adopted the (internet cultivated) attitude... "It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay." The problem with this line of thinking is that all it takes is one sale and the rest follow suit. I've told this tale several times... I owned a KLON pedal (#236) that I decided to sell on eBay. I wasn't sure that I wanted to let it go, so instead of dropping my listing, I raised the price to the ridiculous sum of $1600.00 USD. I figured I'd give it a night, then see how I felt about it next morning. I decided that I would keep it a while longer, since it was the only OD pedal that worked well with my TS9 and Marshall plexi. I opened my eBay account to drop the listing... SOLD! What this person's motivation was (other than lust), I do not know? I get a call from my cousin the next day who informs me that every KLON pedal on eBay is now priced between $1600.00 and $2000.00 USD. Prior to this, there wasn't a single KLON posted for more than $400.00 USD. And so there it is... One sale, market nuked!

Before you go blaming me for preposterous KLON pricing... Think! I was not trying to, nor did I ever except my KLON pedal to sell at that price. If you want to blame someone, blame the lascivious douche who paid 4 x the market value.

Unfortunately, this "it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay" model has become the standard amongst resellers. Manufactures have gotten into the game as well. Current market pricing for USA made gear is beyond preposterous. Manufactures have moved from offering quality products to everyone to offering quality products to a select few. The rest can suck on foreign made trash. Actually, not all foreign made gear is trash. I went to SA yesterday to look for a new guitar, and out of the dozen or so USA and imports models that I played, the Mexican made Charvel and Fender models were superior in both playability and tone. Once they discover this, they'll likely dump the Mexican made quality in favor of China made junk. That, or increase the cost of the Mexican made guitars; thus increasing the price of USA made guitars.

The never ending cycle of avarice.

There is also a lot of entitlement going on in the music gear world. "I want and deserve the very best!" Newsflash, you really don't need a $4000 amp and a $4000 guitar to make music. You really don't. If that's what you WANT, nothing wrong with that at all. I love high end stuff as much as the next guy, but if you are out to create music...what you want and what you need are two totally different things.

Yup! Cash = Douche lube.

Exactly. EVH wrote, gigged, and made the big-time using a small collection of beat-up gear. Joe Walsh made-it using a Telecaster and a Fender Champ. Michael Schenker made-it using a Gibson Flying V, wah pedal and a Marshall 50 watt NMV amplifier. Less eBay - More Mel Bay.

No way. Not true bruh. Unless my fretboard is from 250+ year old ebony, and my maple neck isn’t so old it’s about to fossilize(at the start of fossilization wood develops what’s known as the golden reverberation so it absolutely has to be 190,000 years old to get proper good tone) and if my body isn’t made from entirely ancient Brazilian rosewood and 24 carat gold I can’t shralp properly. This costs about a quarter of a million dollars.

This thing is so good. TB-4 JB Trembucker with parallel switch, Fat Tone Retro 90 HB size p90 neck. 250k volume, 500k no-load on 10 tone pot with .015 cap wired 50’s style for Woman/Stoner toanz. Pure nickel Fender 150R’s for snap and musical sound. 333k resistor on the JB to get it down to 142k or so, which is phat series (no shrill!) and jangly/chimey/clear parallel.

Nope, I blame you 100%, it's all your fault. You started this whole overpriced gear nonsense. Thanks for ruining it for everybody else.

 Just kidding.
It is an interesting story though. Who knows what's going through people's minds paying for something when it's so ridiculously overpriced. Unfortunately if someone's willing to pay a high price another is more than happy to sell it to 'em.

My number one is a ‘78 Ibanez ST-100. Ive had it 25 years and it is my Eddie guitar. 25.5” scale, 3 ply quartersawn maple neck, JB bridge, Fender Pure Nickel 10’s, EVH knobs. That guitar forced me to look at everything and EVH guided me to many discoveries. Nothing sounds like it. It is MINE!

The Voodoo Labs Microvibe is kind of poopy sounding anyway; bullet dodged

GC gives 60% of what they’ll sell for. I had a Splawn that had issues and didn’t want to stick it on someone else. They gave me $900 and I paid $950 for it. Not too bad…

I suppose I'm as guilty as the next guy, as I just paid $1000.00 over pre-COVID market value for a Gibson Benchmark T.V. Yellow Flying V.

A bit off-topic, but related to higher pricing... Have you noticed how fast the more desirable gear is selling? I was ready to pay $6199.00 for a new '68 LP Custom that had posted on Reverb three days ago. I went to buy it last night... gone! I looked-up my back-up LPC selection... gone! I had several R9's picked-out... gone! If you look on SW and MF, much of the desirable gear is out of stock. Now would be a good time for anyone who owns a truck to offer shipping service to domestic producers. Sam Ash has been sending company vehicles to pickup guitars from Gibson in an effort to keep select stores stocked. It may not be as bad now, but it's going to get worse as the days pass. I'm picking-up a few things while they're in-stock.
