With War of ages (5150's), Demon Hunter(6505's), and Bless the fall ( I have no idea) Did not like this band . I did see a Recto at one point. I could not see what amps AILD were using, I hate when bands do that  Like it's a big secret. None really cut through to me. AILD sounded the best but hey, they were the headliner. I was right next to the board so you would think that would be the best spot for a good sound. None of the solos cut, Guitars had no real note definition. Maybe I am getting old but, asked the people I was with and they agreed. IDK, maybe it is the type of music or my ears just want to hear more mids. Or maybe shitty sound guy. :gethim: It was a good time either way. Im not a christian guy but I like the music.

It's the type of music. I'm sixteen and I have the same problem.

I recently saw Parkway Drive (6505s) supported by Winds of Plague (6505s) who were ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE and Despised Icon (6505s aswell) who were almost as bad as WoP. and these other two bands who borrowed gear who were shocking.

the supporters were shocking but Parkway Drive were incredible... really awesome performers and the atmosphere was amazing, made the whole gig just awesome. I wouldn't have gone as I'm not a fan of core but it was a good friend's birthday.

But anyway.. Parkway Drive had an acceptable amount of mids coming from the guitars (I listened to the soundchecks and the guitars during the shows as I'm a gearhead) but not as much as I personally would have used, I think I have a less modern aproach to EQing.

Winds of plague's guitar tone was scratchy and sounded like full presence, I wasn't sure about mids for them, Despised Icon had NO mids... absolutely none. full bass, full res, bass guitar was loud too, bass was heavy on the drum triggers and they had bass booms through the PA, so glad I was wearing earplugs.. it was horrendous.

Long story short, I think it has more to do with the genre than anything. I've only seen a few modern metal/metalcore bands where I noticed the mix was good. The emphasis of bass and no mids is always present, or atleast to my knowledge.

Oh, and one of the guitarist(Phil Sgrosso) was playing the PRS I just bought. That was kinda cool :)

Yeah, Maybe it was the venue too. I rarely see a good sounding band there. Trivum has been the best sounding so far at that place. For the type of music I feel Killswitch Engage has the best live sound I have heard(so far). They always cut through. Have seen them a few times. I go to shows to hear the music, most times I am dissapointed :aww:

I was hanging with these guys at their PA show last weekend. Friends from tour.

Phil is playing a Fender 5150 III Nick is playing a 6505. Both are using avatar 2x12 contemporary cabs with V30 for the stage and FOH and Mesa 2x12 wedges for their own monitors. Decimator Rack noise gates, Tubescreamers upfront. Phil has a PRS and Nick an Ibanez both use EMG pickups.

The "clean stage look" as they call it was not done to hide the gear but to give a cleaner look onstage for the light show.

The new record rocks!

Was the show down in the Springs or up here in the Denver area?

Just picked up AILD's new album today and I am loving it.

I love the new AILD album, i cant stop listening to it and the new stuff from war of ages.
Aild are a cool band and last time i saw them they sounded great and they was using kranks, i cant remember what war of ages was playing thru the last time i saw them, war of ages is one of my favorite bands.

Oh, hehe, Clean stage look! Got it, my bad. Meant no disrespect. I am such a gear nut that I want to see everything. The tone was there for sure. Those amps should get the job done . Just does'nt sound the way I want it to. They were tight and the music sounded good overall. As a guitar player I feel the guitars should dominate the mix, go figure  Maybe it is the venue. Just have not been that impressed with the sound there. Even Testament did not sound that great to me there, that has to say something. Do you know if the guys from AILD have a volume boost for soloing or count on sound guy? Really like the venue, it is a cool place. Just wish it sounded better. I did notice the cabs were facing each other across the stage. Not sure the exact reason for this, Have seen many bands do it. My theory is it helps them hear each other and maybe not dominate out front of stage :dunno: I have been told it is easier to mix into pa if nothing is coming off stage. At any rate, I am no professional, just know what I like to hear. Maybe if you talk to them you could relay my experience, or not. Do they have a sound guy that travels to every show with them? Had a great time regardless and yes they brought the Brootz!

As I lay Dying is a Christian band? lol. I have all their stuff and would have never know. I can't understand WTF that guy is saying when he sings. I just like their music.

Had no idea either, not that it matters. Guy takes a solid viewpoint on the topic.

From wiki.
When asked if they're a Christian band or Christians in a band, Tim Lambesis stated on the band's FAQ, "I'm not sure what the difference is between five Christians playing in a band and a Christian band.[3] If you truly believe something, then it should affect every area of your life. All five of us are Christians. I believe that change should start with me first, and as a result, our lyrics do not come across very "preachy." Many of our songs are about life, struggles, mistakes, relationships and other issues that don't fit entirely in the spiritual category. However, all of these topics are written about through my perspective as a Christian"

The sound guy boosts levels for the solos. They do in fact have a different FOH guy on this most recent tour but the venue makes a big difference. The cabs onstage should have been the mesa 2z12 wedges which they are using as side fills (monitors). it was done more so they can hear themselves but you are right about your theory.

For the guy asking about what albums to get. Well I have known about this band since the beginning but I didn't personally like them until "An Ocean Between Us" most fans start with the one before that "Shadows Are Security". The new one "The Powerless Rise" is really killer also.

And to Mhenson yeah these dudes are staunch christians. some of the kindest people I have met. If you read the lyrics with religion/christianity in mind you'll see its all between the lines. I think this band does a great job of being 100% christian and NOT shoving it down your throat.

powerless rise is good but a little bit different than the older stuff,
frail words collapse, ocean between us and shadows are security are all really good, frail words doesnt have as much clean vocals and sounds heavier to me, theres some stuff that came out before frail words but i didnt dig it as much as the other stuff.
