What's up guys?
I hope everyone here is doing well! I don't get to post much these days, but I really wanted to share something cool with everyone.
I've been playing around with these things for a couple days and I am really digging the amplifire, it is totally awesome for amp tones and FX tones and the flexibility and portability is simply killer.
I am a tube amp guy , but in some situations it's way to expensive and difficult for me to travel and tour with my full rig over to Europe, or even sometimes getting in and out of NYC can be a pain in the neck with a 4x12 / full size head, guitar, pedal board, so on.
Over the years I've always tried to have a really cool portable fly rig solution available to be able to travel and gig with, some of you guys may recall it started out with the EHX 44 magnum setup, then I went over to a engl e530 preamp and rocktron velocity power amp setup, and now I'm on to this rig. I really have to say this is the most versatile, powerful, and authentic sounding out of all of the previous setups.
I have been spending some time on a bunch of different sources to see how the sounds translate - between studio world going direct out of the amplifire to protools through studio monitors for recording direct and or late night / home practice, also out of the amplifire with the cab sims off into the fx return of a real tube head and 4x12 cabinet for running as just a preamp that would get mic'd up as a real guitar amp for recording or live, and also into a powered speaker (RCF NX15sma) for a FRFR type of setup
I also have been experimenting running the amplifire with cab sim off into the fx return of the quilter pro block 200 into a 4x12 or 2x12 or even 1x12 for stage, which can get mic'd up like a regular amp, and you can also take the direct out with cab sim on to the PA. This is really cool!
I've made some IR cabs from my marshall 4x12 that is loaded with celestion H30 anniversary, and Classic lead 80 speakers in an x pattern. I blended them and mic'd the h30 with a sm57 dead on, and a md421 on the classic lead 80 dead on. I also made some other impulses to... and i have been working on matching my real amp setup, and i'm getting crazy close.
I made a handful of clips, and I hope maybe they are helpful to anyone thinking about a setup like this, I can't express how valuable , portable, and cool this is! They have really done a great job and i'm looking forward to more amp models, and more features.
Feauture i'd like to see added so far -
I would like to see more EQ capability for the cabinet sims, this would be a huge help to balance your tones when using the amplifire into a real guitar and cab setup, and splitting the output to the PA, I find sometimes if you run this way you have to pay attention to how the tone translates...
I would also like to see the ability to have a prefader option that is selectable on one set of the outputs, so that if you need to make a volume change on stage, it won't effect the house send level
I would also like to see more profiling capabilities in matching your own amp, this would be huge.
First clip is going out of amplifire with cab sim off into the fx return of my plexi through a 4x12 cabinet, mic'd up with a sm57 to protools, no post processing at all.
Second clip is direct tones only, from the amplifire directly into protools with the cab sims on, no real amps or mics used here, also no post processing at all.
Third clip is the amplifire with cab sims off, running direct in the fx return of the quilter pro block 200 power amp powering my 4x12 and mic'd up with an sm57 into protools, no post processing here
Last clip is a clip of some lower and mid gain tones and I bounce between the direct sound of the amplifire direct into protools with the cab sim on, and the mic'd up amp sound (quilter problock fx return in, marshall 4x12 with sm57) no post processing here
This whole setup fits in my gig bag, the quilter gets insanely loud and sounds really good to!
