You started off mostly English like us mate. Are you denying the 13 Colonies... These days it's a bloody melting pot in both places. As for French Colonies I even know that quite a few of them came after fleeing from up north in Canada from the French colonies up there. I haven't looked that up to prove a point - I just know it. 13 colonies 250 years ago is a long way from english migrants avoiding a crappy 1960's winter and taking the opportunity to move to Australia. Culturally and historically you are way closer to being English than Americans are.

If only you realised the percentage of immigrants here now. What you are saying was true in the 1960s but these days there are massive areas of Sydney where I feel like I need a passport and I'm not exaggerating either. Places where the shop signs are asian or arabic and I feel uncomfortable because I'm in another country and I'm not talking about small parts of Sydney either. When I was born and went to school it was different.

I feel out of place because the place I was born is no longer the place I live.

And further to what I just said, it's the same in France and Britain. They go on the rampage. That my contrarian friend is why I called those countries shitholes these days.

Making friends on an individual level is one thing - I am no different to you at that level when I meet individuals. Commenting on demographic and cultural shifts on a macro level is another.

I get it, and have experienced, the disappointment. But if this life was perfect we might not turn to the Lord. There would be no reason to. So it's bitter medicine that tastes terrible, but heals our soul. I try not to sweat it anymore, it's not worth worrying about because it is not within my control. I know your political ties to Britain are way nearer past than ours are. And I would suspect, though I have no clue really, that the majority of your population are directly descended from British. Our countries are similar in a parallel historical trajectory though. You know the sun never sets on the British Empire.

Yes to all of that - I hang on to the British bit because there's not much left for me in terms of meaningless modern Australian identity here - but in reality and politically in terms of citizenship and nationality I'm no more British than you which is to say not British at all.
