I love the tone of my old JCM800 , i can use it at fairly loud volumes, but it just keeps sounding better the louder it gets

sadly i don't think the hearing of my fellow bandmates will last long enough to appreciate this fact ;)

looking for suggestions (preferably not too expensive) for an attenuator just to notch it down a few levels,

i've seen a few that are Ohmage specific, i'd prefer something that's a bit more flexible in case, thanks

I believe there is a cameron attenuator in the works. Brad will have more info.

Marshall power soak ...reliability & customer support...i dont trust boutique myself

I have been using a Hot Plate for a couple months now and have no complaints.

I haven't played a Rock Crusher. There are varying reviews on it. It does have some nice features...some EQing options, a XLR out and unbalanced line out, and 8/16 ohm. There seems to be some issue with the first click on attenuation being more than -3db. I don't think that would be an issue for me.

I have an Alex. It's has a line out that's ok, not great. The line out does have a level control. One impedance. It has a treble compensation circuit. It does remove some highs, but it's not bad (the treble comp will add those back in at heavy attenuation). It does really well all the way to super low volume. It won't go complete load though. There is still a tiny amount of sound coming through the speakers even all the way down.

The Alex is the cheapest of high end attenuators, but a lot of guys say it hangs with the big boys.

I want to try an Aracom. Pricey, but it seems the Marshall guys love it. I don't think it removes the highs like other attenuators.

Whatever you get, make sure it is a reactive load as opposed to a resistive load. The reactive loads are more pricey but do a much better job at keeping your original tone.

thanks for the suggestions, i got a good deal on a dr z airbrake in the end, curious how it sounds

should work well with the 50watter , at worst given the price i got it for i can sell it on ebay or something
