For the Ty fans. Just found these today...posted on Youtube yesterday. Much detail about his Gretchen tone

bulby

My wife sat down last night and watched most of them. They're way more in depth than anything I've seen/read before. Good stuff!

Didint someone just post this?..........
Great stuff BTW
I could watch it several more times
That tone was amazing. It sent me on a very annoying quest to find my own "magic" single coil tone that ended up frustrating me to no end for about 4 years. I could not even get close to it no matter what I tried. I eventually gave up and stuck with humbuckers. I have heard some other great SC tones, like Doug Aldrich in the vid were he wears the funny hat, that tone is huge, but I cant make it work for me.....
Very annoying :gethim:
and expensive
I love his newer tones too, they still sound like him. I got the new vid from Todd the other day, the tones are very sweet. It appears he's using his Egnator pre's and his rack into a couple of Marshall heads as pwr amps, with Marshall cabs.
I'm not sure why, seems like he would have used his endorsed stuff to do their vid
But it sounded great, especially his lead tone
Doug looks a bit worn on the vid, and I think Jerry smoked a big fat one before the show, he had the chinamen eye thing going on   Killer vid though, I loved it, thanks Todd

sorry, didn't check to see if it was posted :( did you post it?

oh yeah.. what vid are you talking about? their new dvd? Haven't located it yet.

...and oops, my bad. I just found the other post. cool stuff anyways. Never heard ty talk about his gear that much. Nice to know that what he said is pretty much what everyone has assumed by now. Understand about your quest for single coil thickness. His SC sound is unreal on the Gretchen album. Single notes sound like chords. Still wonder why he hasn't returned to that sound if he was that flabbergasted with it. I guess he's running p90's now though.

He still can get it, I have heard it when I was working with him. He just doesn't dig it anymore really. Wally and I have told him both that the only thing missing from the tone I helped him with was the singles! His early rig was a nightmare really, noise beyond belief while playing it was great but when he stopped look out! As he said it was a big problem while touring.

That makes sense, I guess if the Elite pups were such a huge part of his tone, but were so microphonic, it would still be an issue with his current rig (which is killer BTW) but less so without the added L5 noise.
Hey Jeff, what modules is he using?? I know its been listed before, but I cant remember....... its lost in the grey matter

Its the Live in London DVD, its killer. I just got it from Todd (Ejecta) a few days ago, I'm gonna watch it on a absolutely massive home theatre system this weekend. 3000 watts, I cant wait!!
Is he really using P90's now? jeesh, he's hard to keep up with   Those pups that Wade wound for him sounded awesome, I was curious as to how hot they really were. They sound hot, but fatter than a hippo, and still very articulate. Wonder what P90 he likes? I can see him likeing those pups, but it would be very hard for me to give up those XV pups. Maybe use both for different stuff

He is using he Seymour Duncan P-rails. Humb, single, P90 all in one and IMO they do none of them convincingly. He was using the modified EG5 to the X and the Vx or COD/Gretchen I did for him. The MCP fo XV PU he was using were a tweaked Afayau. I agree his tone up to the DVD was the best I have heard since the old days. As did most sound guys, players etc. But he has gone another direction with use of the Axe and the Gilford and the Seymour's.

Have you tried the P-Rails in the bridge? Which one of Wades pups are you using in the bridge?
BTW, I love that DVD

Wade's pickups I have are a Blister and an Angel Dust. Never put a P-Rail in the bridge since I like Wade's pick ups there but my friend who turned me on to the P-Rails put one in the bridge and said in the hum bucking mode it reminded him of a Duncan JB.

Glad you are enjoying the DVD.
