dude brought it over and compared it to my herbert and mark v.....that thing is way overhyped.....its ok, but i dont see how people say it does the amps it models as close as people say......it was good but a let down for me.....though i did like the effects alot

its nice, but not that much better than other modelers out there. and so far none of the modelers have the "feel"...many of them get VERY close to the sound, but still lack the "feel".
 
Now look at what you've guys have gone and done. The average hype classifieds selling price just dropped another 4% - i hope you're happy :lol: :LOL:

Haven't tried the II, didn't like the Ultra though. I think AFX is love it or hate it, there seems to be no middle ground. The AFX butt hurt is pretty funny though.
 
AXE-FX II, I like it quite a bit more now that they have updated it recently, sounds much better than previous updates.

Does it sound like a real amp?

I guess that depends on how you dial it in.

Live, i still have to use a real amp.

But for recording purposes I find this thing absolutely amazing.

It just takes awhile playing with it, dialing in sounds.

I've A/B's with real amps, and it may not sound like them LIVE without some really MAJOR dialing, You should be concentrating on what it sounds like recorded.
They CAN get really close that way.
 
I wish they would separate the fx and the amp models. It would be cool
to be able to buy a multi fx only version or a preamps only version.
i would replace my G-Major 2

The Axe FX isn't a tube amplifier, and it was never meant to be... I'm not sure why tube dudes are so diehard about an irrelevant point.

because for $2,000 you would hope a line 6 unit wouldnt be able to touch it for effects or preamp modeling. being as though a tube amp cost the same amount you have those who consider the preamp modeling more important and those who consider the effects abilities more important. its hard for some reason to sell a unit that does both for that price range to accept only one or the other, and admit it is still not as good as the real deal and at the $2k+ price range. the only benefits are low volume playing and direct recording - both which can be done for cheaper and with repair warranties.
 
If someone has already decided for themselves that all modelers sound bad, there's not really anything to talk about here. I've owned most of the PODs including the HD500, and been through many software plugins, and in my opinion, none are even playing the same game as the Axe FX II, much less being in the ballpark. You're not going to get real amplifier feel from the Axe FX, and that's what it seems like people are often complaining about. I don't understand because that's not it's intended function, and being a standalone preamp is only a possibility that's been designed into it. It's not an amp, so stop comparing it to them. If you were comparing the models to a recorded a processed guitar amplifier, that's a different story... and while that's not spot-on, it's convincing to thousands of people out there. The Axe FX is about what the audience hears, not what the guitarist feels.

It's a silly argument to see on every message board.

Because some Axe users make outrageous claims that it's an amp killer and make knee jerk reactions any perceived negative comment about the unit as if it was their wife.......... and some tube guys like to troll Axe threads and defend tubes as if they were the ONLY tool to be used used in EVERY situation.

Like you said it's not a tube amp so people on both sides just need to get over it... it has its uses and for me it consistently records better, sounds far better than any tube amp I've had at low volumes, and IMHO definitely sounds better than any Line 6, 11R, Digitech etc.
 
Spaceboy...this is directly from the Fractal Audio Website...this is how they market their product...this is one reason why there seems to be on-going arguments on these forums...

"It accurately recreates the sound and feel of real amps, cabs, and effects and is ideal for both live and studio use."

So it seems that is INFACT their "intended function".

Don't get me wrong, I understand what you are saying, and I agree. They SOUND very close, but they still lack FEEL...
 
When marketed to recreate amp feel and whatnot, it's hard for people to adjust their mindset to what modellers actually are, and where they are useful.

1: In the studio. Ideal for creating lots of sounds and styles on the fly.

2: For a session player who travels and needs everything at his or her disposal.

3: As a live back up, that doesn't take up space in the van.

4: Being able to plug into a provided backline. Eg into the return of a rented amp.

5: A great effects unit.

Etc...

If you have a band, or play a particular style you should have an amp suited for that. Nothing is goig to change that.
