Axe FX as a main rig...

I have a single space looper
(digital echoplex)

and I'd like to go direct
so only need 3 spaces

bringing a floor power strip is no big deal
also no big deal to plug in 2 things instead of just 1

I'm thinking a 3 space instead of 4 space is worth the extra effort maybe

I WOULD be disappointed if I saw a real band playing digital amps ie: If the melvins or high on fire or bettie serveert had a digital rig -- I would get dis-interested at least partically.. just my opinon -- I think everyone should do what they want and enjoy!
I fail to understand this  If the band sounds good, why would anyone care what the source of the sound is? Players have been getting horrible tones out of good amps for quite some time now...using good tube amps is no guarantee for good tone.

Listen with your ears, not your eyes ;)

Yeah, I get you____ Still think There is a silk and depth in the digital models that is missing__

Again ears not eyes get it -- but it is a little lamer to me to have guys with their axe fx's,Lap tops, I pods etc.
Call me an old fashioned fetish rocker, But that last bit of better is worth it for me! Whatever Workx! j

I still like film Photograpghy, Tape Machines etc. also.. fwiw

The model remains the same -_ The amp is alive, it changes over years!

I love a chick with real tits over the fake ones. But 16 year old girls are getting them done now as graduating presents. The procedure is only getting better and cheaper. It will be done in malls soon. " they feel a lot reeeealer now".
The Axe Fx has already reached a level where there is no turning back. Many younger people playing clubs have never played live with a tube amp. Many older guys keep their tubes(if they even still own them) at home and they can't even come close to cranking them there so what's the point.
Modelers are just way too practical and have every sound and effect that can change with 1 button press. And they can sound as shitty or as awesome as the persons ability and ear allows.Just like Tubes amps. This argument has already been had with anolog vs digital recording, Digital cameras etc.... How's that debate going and how many care.
I know i know (in your best southern accent now) " i don't care what people are doing, i don't text, use that there interweb thing, email, or use digital gear. Now git off my lawn"

Except for when they die...aka all the time. Note: I still use a tube poweramp.

Yes and auto tune is convenient and everybody is doing it also. It is practical but just like so much today that is defined as better it just seems more fluff and less soul. Sure the younger generation is growing up possibly without tubes, etc.... does that necessarily means it is a good thing? That is for each individual to decide. I know you are pro Axe FX based on your posts, and that is cool. However the no turning back and your southern accent comment is no different than me saying ( in your best baby coo you can do) I don't care about the Axe FX, but the interweb, email and computers are a part of my everyday life. ****Now git off my lawn, it is real grass not artificial turf*****

I am not arguing for or against the AXEFXII. If you like it, great! I don't like it enough to give up my tubes yet.

And digital devices don't die all the time? :gethim:

I think if you are a local club player, and want a quick set up, and the ability to quickly change patches without tap dancing a bunch of pedals, you can't go wrong with the Axe FX. I am planning on getting the Axe FX II when it comes out. I still prefer a tube power amp and regular guitar cab, but I like having the variety of tones if I need em and I like less pedal dancing and less cabling to set up. The Axe is easy, especially with the new version II, Axe floorboard with one cable to the Axe FX is a lot easier for me than all the cables i use now to get it done with an effects loop. I have all my cables together in a snake but is still more to set up, heavier, less convenient. Anyway, I still love my tube amps but a digital rig would be nice and easy for me. I don;t try to recreate sounds exactly so I don;t care about a FRFR system. I just want a variety of tones that sound good and have the punch of a good tube amp. The Axe FX into a Mesa or VHT tube power amp does that in my experience. A friend of mine has one in his studio and I had a chance to play through it and I didn;t miss tubes. I have also seen them live a few times and I loved the tone. :)

True, but I can put some new tubes in, change the fuse, even pull the chassis out to see what the problem may be. What are you going to do?

if i cant get my current rig working properly them im probly gonna sell it all off and just get and AXE II and a poweramp and be done.

well, depends on how many pedals it takes to produce the sound you want. i don't like programming a midi pedal, don't trust it that much (that's more me than anything else) and trying to squint and mess with a midi board. a big and colorful OD boost, and a delay pedal work just fine for me for gigs. simple, easy to see and easy to stomp.
