Hey, what's up? Haven't made/posted a clip on here in a few years, so here's one I put together over the holiday of my main Mark IV patch on my Fractal Audio Axe-Fx II (USA Lead 2+ sim). Rhythm & lead playing (i.e. lots of shredding :)), with a couple of familiar Petrucci riffs thrown in (no backing track). I recorded this from my Axe-Fx II directly into my Boss BR-864 8-track recorder. It's mostly single tracked (though the same tracked is tripled and panned hard left, hard right, and center), with only a little mono delay added to the left side (the delay is from my Boss recorder, not the Axe-Fx). The Petrucci section if double tracked (panned hard left & right) and completely dry with no effects.

Please let me know what you think of the tone (and the playing too I guess, since I got my chops up to a decent level for the first time in awhile). And yes, I already know I play with way too much gain. :D

Enjoy:

Nice job on the playing. Sounds pretty good, gain is up too high for my tastes and as a mark IV owner it doesn't really sound that much like a mark IV to me. Seemed pretty dry overall to me.

Nice playing for sure...I don't have a MarkIV but have played one many times and that reminds me of them for sure...I wouldn't be able to say it nails it but it is ballpark and a nice gainy tone....I would also consider a gain redux and maybe a notch around 5k? Something in that area (don't have my RTA hooked up to the computer to see officially) sounds digital...I don't know how else to describe it...It makes the pinch harmonics really squeal but it's mostly pickups and processing....It is good nonetheless and your playing sounds excellent...Enjoyable for certain...

And I gotta say, that is a hilarious signature....I've seen one other like it but yours is funnier...That alone gives my tube loving heart the chance good going but digital is tough to hide...If you must, at least get a Kemper...

OK, sorry couldn't resist...I don't have Kemper either....Just throwing meat near the forest at dusk....

Cool riffage in the end!

Nice shredding! For sure sounds like a Mark, though I like to dial mine much more low mid focused and punchy. This sounds really "chirpy" with some sizzle on top like I hear a lot of guys dial theirs. cool stuff.

Sorry it's taken me so long to post again in this thread, but it's been a really screwed up past week or so and I haven't really been online very much. I won't go into too much detail, but my in-laws (who live just a couple of houses away from us) were the victims of a home invasion and were assaulted and robbed at gun point one evening last week. We have reason to believe my father in-law was specifically targeted and that these lowlifes that live very close to us in our neighborhood may be involved. The police seem to be on top of it and we are hoping for an arrest(s) soon. I have always been against having a gun in the house (mainly because I have kids), but now have a loaded one within arm's reach at all times (good times :( ).

Anyway, thank for the comments about the clip. I understand that much gain, along with the top end sizzle, may not be to everyone's taste, but it's what I was going for. I like an aggressive, punchy rhythm tone that sounds like its about to blow up, but with a sweet sounding, smooth lead tone at the same time (something like Doug Aldrich's tone on the live Whitesnake DVD). I should have mentioned that this patch was tweaked with and for playing through my studio monitors. I did zero re-tweaking for the direct recording. While it sounds pretty close direct, I definitely like the way it sounds out my monitors more (doesn't sound "digital" at all).

I completely forgot to mention before that the most important part in creating this patch was that I did a Tone-Match of the intro of one of gibson5413's (Chad) Mark IV clips:

Thanks Chad. :)

Shredi! Where ya been, damn?

That sounds great, would sit perfectly in a mix.

Yikes, sorry to hear that brother...scary stuff. BTW, I wasn't saying the tone was bad. I like it. I think I dial everything in a little darker than most with a bit of a rolled-off top end.

[Clip]: GREAT playing.

[Tone}: Bit too hot for me in the fizzle department, I'd darken it up a touch.

[Situation]: REALLY sorry about what happened man - that's pretty traumatizing for everyone involved.
