Axe FX VS Egnater M4!

I have both. I use the M4 for 95% of my preamp tones and just use the Axe for unusual stuff that I cannot get from the M4 plus the effects. If you are looking for a compact, simple rig for school then go with the Axe-FX. If you are looking for the best tone PERIOD get the M4 and save up for the Axe-FX for your effects unit. The combo of the M4 with the Axe-FX is just out of this world.

#1. Does your dorm have an elevator?

#2. Are you going to have a van or SUV to drive to local gigs?

#2. Are you sure that your fellow dorm dwellers won't steal and sell this $10,000 rig for weed?

If not, good luck with that rig man...

I highly doubt you're going to allowed to practice in a DORMROOM with a "rack of doom" style rig. I'm going to bet that you have to practice amplified in designated rehearsal rooms in some of the campus buildings. There's probably gonna be some flutist or violin student, who's going to be attempting to compose a sonata or some shit, who is not going to appreciate your shredding thru that VHT stereo rig.

As someone who tried to jam with a halfstack in my dorm room, and got written up by the R.A. countless times. Trust me, trust me, trust me. Get a $100 solid state practice amp and a distortion pedal for practice. Seriously.

A rig like that, in my opinion, is absolutely impractical for your situation.

I can understand that you're a great player, and want to invest in some great gear, and that's FINE. But that's not a convenient rig, by any stretch of the imagination.

1. Yes.
2. No.
3. Yes. (i already know him)

There are practice rooms.

And your right about the rig, it was OVER the top (it has just been my dream rig for a long time and now that i have money i thought what the heck), Im going to settle with a small rig:

Furman
Rack Tuner (maybe)
Axe fx Ultra
Vht 2/50/2

Along with maybe a single 1x12 (i want to have a stereo setup though , Maybe 2 1x12s and ill keep them in a 2x12 Shockmount ata case?)

Then a pedal board with a liquid foot, Ground Control pro, or a mfc101 if it ever comes out! and with a expression pedal (can one expression pedal handle wahs and pitch shifts?), and volume pedal.

This seems very reasonable, and in case you were wondering the Berklee dorms are HUGE with full bathrooms in each.

That's cool man, they must have upgraded the dorms. I stayed at Berklee for a guitar summer camp. I was considering ditching my major and transferring there, so i wanted to try it out one summer.

My dormroom was TINY and OLD with shared bathrooms. Definitely not ideal at all. Maybe the better players get the better rooms?

I'm only 10 years older than you, but all these guys are right. Your "last" rig is NEVER your last rig! haha.

That axe-fx rig looks more streamlined and slimmed down.

Another option: Get your M4/VHT rig all set up, and then just get a used Randall RM20. That way you can pop out your favorite egnater module in there for a quick, easy, lightweight, grab and go rig.

With the Axe fx Ultra would i really need my Mxr flanger, mxr phase 90, and Boss tu-2 tuner (cant i make the axe fx tuner appear on the liquid foot?)?

sorry about the sideways pic  ..anyways, for practice I just grab a fender g-dec-great for teaching w/too!...but I can tell you that when I have roadies and Im gigging out w/ the rack-and the amps are turned up,Its a totally pro sound...I havent played the axe fx yet,but i can say that if you go w/it,at least do not, ever, ever skimp on your poweramp( if youre using cabs).....best of luck!

Just fyi, Im not in college, but I have stayed in dorms with friends. Your roommate may not be the problem, but doors dont always get locked, and anyone can get in dorms, and people do steal shit. Just be careful my man. Ive seen it more than one time.

This is SOOO true. I knew lots of people who had stuff get stolen in college. There is no way in hell Id be at a school of musicians and have a $5000+ rig sitting in my room. No F'ng way.

You were looking at Egnater M4 so how about something like the new 2 channel Rebel 30 1x12 combo? Grab and go and great tone. Or like Nick said, get a RM20 1x12 and an EG5 module.

You are much better off putting your hard earned money in a CD for 4 years, getting some interest, then buying your first "last rig I will ever need" when you graduate.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure hookers are expensive in New York too, although I could be wrong.

NYC babes provide enough comfort, no need for professional aid there

If you have a rig at school you want to look at insurance.

There is a very good chance you well have problems. Most of us are honest. But the few who are not have caused all and I do mean all of us problems.

Just remember... you don't pay them for the "comfort", you pay them to leave... always worth considering...

The last few girls that decided to follow me around cost me a lot more than a pro. But I would have not had all that fun fighting over nonsense.
