Hey Guys,
Let's see your guitars that are weird, rare, freaks of nature, oddballs, 1 off's, bastard stepchildren,,,,you get the idea
I'll start it off with this bute, my Fender 'Alex Gregory' 7 string Stratocaster. I think there were 6 of these made,,,but honestly I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure this was owned by Alex Gregory at one point. The guitar is an anomaly in every way. Yes, a super rare signature guitar for a guy that IMHO, didn't deserve it!
I picked this up about 20 years ago at an auction, mainly because I had never seen a 7 string Stratocaster before. 24 frets, scalloped like the Yngwie model (not quite as deep),,,inside the case was a hand written letter from 'the Maestro Alex Gregory' explaining how to string the instrument (basically stating that he prefers adding a .07 gauge 1st string tuned to high A on the treble side instead of the traditional low B string on the bass side. There is even a small hole for such a thin 1st string on the back of the trem plate (see pix). I'm assuming the thought behind the hole is to prevent string breakage during whammy bar usage? You can run a string like normal thru the trem block, but even the saddle for the 1st string is channeled for using the hole in the plate. Weird!!!! I don't string the guitar that way,,,I like the low end chug of some 'piano wire' instead of shattering glass with a high A .07 gauge string up top.
Let's see what you guys have!!!
