Hi, you sexeh people!

I'm going B standard with my ESP Eclipse (24.75' scale).

What gauge is recommended?

I don't want sloppy strings and not too thick either.
And I don't want to carve the nut (sounds painful) if I would want to go back to E standard later.

Any tips, ideas etc is more then welcome!!

Thanks
/Robert

yup, gonna need to file the nut for this. no way around it.

i used to like the zakk wylde boomers when i was tuning in B, i believe they had a .60 top?

Ernie ball not even slinkys 12-56. But like others have said, probably going to have to have the saddles and nut opened up. That gauge wouldn't go through my tuner holes on my sperzels or locking grovers without modification.

IME with 7-strings at that scale, you can get away with a .059 or even .054 if you can keep a lighter touch on the low B. If you're used to smashing the strings and don't want any rattle, you'll need something heavier.

I use the EB Not Even Slinkys (.012 to .056) in C standard on Eclipses. I'd probably be fine with it a half-step lower in B standard.

I'm able to get the .056 to string through a Sperzel, though I usually have to make sure it's a pretty clean cut on the end of the string before threading it.

might be better off looking for cheap baritone guitar or a 7 string with the amount of fiddling needed to be done. much of which if you make a mistake you must replace the part.

I wasn't aware esp/ltd used tuners with such narrow holes.

change the nut and use at least 56-12 for that tuning, swapping nuts is easier then you think

Thank you for all the input!
I'm still not sure what to do. Maybe I'll try a bit larger gauge strings and hope it will work.
For my Ibanez I use 0.013-0.059 and it's pretty ok, maybe a bit sloppy.
I thought many metalheads like myself used Eclipses or Les Pauls with B standard. Maybe most use drop tuning which I personally can't play with.

I use D'Addario EJ22's (13-56) for drop B on my SG and I really like them, they aren't super tight though. The wound G seems to help out a lot too.
