I understand the difference. But, you won't get the Van Halen Sound unless you have that playing style down. So I agree with you to a certain extent on the equipment. Of course it's not going to sound the same as on a clean amp. Most people are going to dial in an amp to the sound they like. But if you want the Van Halen I sound you have to have that technique or it won't sound like VHI. And you have to have the equipment that can get you there. I just figured you'd dispute the fact that Terry Lauderdale could get that sound with a Boogie, but he could get very close
But explain this to me. How could Rockstah get a better VH sound on an Iphone than most people can get out of a plexi modded for that tone? That's why I think one goes with the other. And, I guarantee that if Mark was playing that SL68 we would all be saying damn that sounds like VH1. And, I also think mark could get close with a stock Plexi cranked or a JCM 800 for that matter.
