Ballsy, LOUD pickup for old school metal??

BKP Warpig or Painkiller

I don't think I'll ever move on from them, bareknuckle all the way :D

If you are talkin old-school, it has to be a Duncan Distortion, JB, or Custom!

How are you setting up your VHT? Master high and level low? If not, try it. Really opens these amps up alot and oh yeah, the DD is great for these kind of tones with the CL.

The guy said he loves his mids. Suggesting a 500XL or an x2N is a little counter-intuitive.

The Duncan Distortion has more punch than the JB on the low end. I still say the 500T is a great pickup for most V's I've played. It's full, rich and powerful.

Finding different ways to dial in your amp would really surprise you.

SD Distortion would bring more punch and low end, but IMHO it is not very tight in combination with that VHT (I used to own a Pittbull CL 50). Perhaps the JB will be better, it sure has balls and high output (but less in the low end than the SD Distortion). A BPK Painkiller would work too (had that one too). An EMG 81 or 85 (new or old version) would boost that VHT right into metal territory and you can add bass via the eq on your amp all you like.

Duncan Distortion would have been my first choice as well, but since you said that, I change my vote to a Duncan Custom.

Both Volumes at about 6 for practices. How similar is the DD to a Super D??? I have a SD in my sexplorer and it is a bit thicker than the Air zone. I think what I need is more output

The Super Distortion is muddier and more low end focused.

The custom is more of a hot PAF style pup. Very tight in the lowend. Very crunchy. I have one in a strat and I love it. But I wouldnt call it a ballsy pup. Hot, yes. But not Ballsy

if your bass are smaller then eggs i wouldent go wit hthe x2n only us mean with balls lagers then egg's can handle it

Dimarzio X2N

TRUUULLL!? I love my X2n, but for old school metal? We talkin Black Sabbath? Or Bathory?

If you wanna go out I would suggest BKP Rebel Yell for ye if the Former. If the latter, BKP Cold Sweat prob. JUST FUCKIN LISTEN TO THE SAMPLES!!! Its true, I have fallen in love with a brand.

If you want more, and tighter Bass, the BKP Warpig is goods. If you want some shred treble, theres a BKP Nailbomb (good for Metallinda (oh wait thats the slovakian cover band)).
All tight if you want it to be, harmonic as hell, and just fucking INCREDIBLELELELELE.
