I want to get my daughter a new car for Christmas and she hints liking the Ford Maverick truck.
She has a Jeep that it won't be replacing, but her Nissan NV200 that she uses for her band that has been nothing but a headache with problems.
Trying to avoid that. Does anyone have experience with the Maverick truck or Bronco Sport (read that they're similar build).
Looking at the gas engine model since she does a lot of freeway and gets about the same mpg as the hybrid but has AWD for the winter.
I saw ford makes other eurovan looking models, but she doesn't like that and thought to get a maverick with a camper top.
Just wondering if any of y'all own one of these and if there's been any issues.
 
I don't but it seems to be reliable; been a few recalls but nothing too major; search on "ford maverick 2024 problems" and "ford maverick 2024" recalls for whatever year you're considering.

I would, but they're like twice the price and it will be mostly just used for her gigs and garage sales, not as her main car since she has a Jeep already.

Too small for her gear, and I don't want to buy used, tbh.
Something with a warranty so if she has issues.

Hers is one of the old ones with a carburetor and straight 6 with manual transmission.
It will probably outlive us all as long as there's still a gas station to fill it up. :ROFLMAO:
Not looking at new jeeps.
 
My niece has the Bronco Sport. It's pretty nice and she hasn't had any issues. Those Maverick trucks are fucking stupid looking. Other than that I know nothing about them.
 
I don't have anything against Ford, but I've always been a Chevy/GMC person. Had a '93 Silverado for the longest time until I bough an '07 GMC Canyon. Only reason I don't still have the Canyon is because it drowned in a flood. Got a Chevy Colorado after that. No issues with any of them except basic maintenance.

I will say I wouldn't want to do a whole lot of work outside of basic maintenance on the Colorado if it ever needed it. Between all the computer stuff and the way everything is crammed in the engine it'd end up being a pain in the ass. But that's all new vehicles.

I miss the days when you could climb in there and parts were easy to get to. I had to take the bumper halfway off my wife's old Suzuki sedan just to get to & change the headlight bulb.

For the most part you are right. But this is our current bluesmobile and for whatever reason it has been nothing but problems, exacerbated by hitting two deer en route home from gigs.
 
The awd model with the 2.0 is the one to get. The 2.0 is killer for a little four banger. Very very reliable in my experience. Plus if your a gearhead it’s easy to mod and tune. Couple local mechanics brag about them. Said ford screwed them up by pairing them with garbage transmissions or just a shit vehicles.

If I were to buying new, Toyota is the only manufacturer still making reliable vehicles.

A friend of mine bought a $55,000 Jeep Willy's early this year, got 86 miles and one week on it before the electronics took a shit. They had it for a month and couldn't fix it. Wound up giving him all his money back to avoid a lemon law lawsuit.

We got an '18 JK without any electronics in it and it has been a pretty good ride so far. Manual everything. Can't say that for my brother's 4 runner....

That's terrible.

I was hoping that Toyota was going to bring the IMV truck to the US, but doesn't look like it will come here.
If I put $10k down on the Ford it's like $300/month vs doing the same with a crewcab 4x4 Tacoma is like $800+/month+ more insurance and gas.
My husband doesn't want me to buy her another car, so it has to come out of my personal fun money budget if I do. I'd rather give my kids date or hobby money with the difference than have it wrapped up in a vehicle she mostly uses only on weekends for that long, tbh.

That's a hard choice but I guarantee that Toyota will hold it's value better if you need to get out from under it.
