Bareknuckle pickup rumor.

I had heard a silly (or so I thought) rumour that Bareknuckle pickups have the same feel/tone as if you were playing the pickup in the neck position even if you were in the bridge position. I didn't really believe that until I got to play a Blackmachine for a while that had a Cold Sweat bridge pickup and a Painkiller neck pickup. Now, I don't know if it was because the Cold Sweat is a low output pickup or if the combination of woods in the guitar made it this way, but it did very much sound and feel like a neck pickup. The Painkiller did also but I'm sure that was because it was in the neck position (duh).

I normally would not care, and just go on my merry little way, but I am having a Warmoth 7 string spec'd out and I was thinking about putting in a War Pig in the bridge. I just thought I would ask you fine gentlemen who had experience with these pickups your opinion before I pulled the trigger.

So, do they all feel like neck pickups? or more specifically, does the War Pig feel like a neck pickup?
 
Not IMHO. But I never swapped bridge for neck or visa versa.

I have Rebel Yells, Crawler and had the Black Dog, Cold Sweat, and VHII bridge pups in a few Les Pauls.
 
I never had any issues like that while I had my painkiller set. Those things sounded awesome!!
 
No not at all, and I've got various BKPs in several guitars including a Cold Sweat set in an all mahogany 26.5" seven string tuned down a step.
 
I installed a painkiller in the bridge of a Dean (not sure the model, double cut made in the USA) for a friend of mine, and it sounded nice and sharp like a good high output bridge pickup should. Nothing like a neck pickup tone.
 
that was my experience, meaning it sounded like a neck pup to me.

this was in my MIJ jackson that had an EMG 85 @ 18V in the bridge prior to the BK. pup in question was a nailbomb.

with that said, i grew to appreciate the sound of it, even if it was something that was totally different than what i was used to.
 
my PK's rock in my LP...they destroy the shitty stock '57's.

That's the first time I've ever heard 57's referred to as "shitty". Those are great all round pickups IMO.

What do you think of the Crawler pups? I have a set but haven't installed them in anything. Thanks!
 
It must have been either wired incorrectly or the pickup was broken somehow. The whole bridge pickup sounding like a neck pickup doesn't make any sense to me....there must be another problem.
 
If anything, Tims neck pickups sound more like a bridge pickup. I have had quite a bunch of these. rebell Yells in a LP custom kill.

+1 I rarley ever use neck pickups but i loved ever bareknuckle nec pickup ive played.

This is more likely - in my experience his neck pickups are so much less muddy than most neck pickups that they sound closer to a bridge pickup than most others do. They still have the character of a neck pickup but with the cut of a bridge pickup.
Cant say I've ever heard of the bridge pickups sounding like neck pickups :(

And Robotechnology, I have a Crawler bridge pickup and its lovely - very versatile, with a lovely mid-range growl.
