I'm not a bass player but I Love the instrument \../ A luthier friend gave me this bass w/ Bartolini P&J pickups, Schaller 3D bridge, tuners & S-Locks, CTS/Emerson pots etc... the Ibanez Bass was new when I got it and it came with a New MONO deluxe gig bag, I do love the Jescar Stainless frets that was added.

My current Rig. Not anything crazy. Tech 21 SVT rack preamp, ADA bass power biamplifier, some old vintage fender cab with Celestion pulse speakers. I had to replace the original eminence speakers as they crapped out. But they had the big square magnet. They sounded great so I was sad they died but eh. The ADA power amp only half ass works lol. The high side crapped out, but the bass side still works fine. I'd like a bit more power though. The bass side is 400 watts, but I don't feel like I have enough headroom.

I still consider myself a noob, even though I have been playing bass for a little over a year. I use a Dean 4 string tuned down to C# standard with flatwounds, and an Ibanez 5 string in standard also with flatwounds. Still really trying to get the hang of a 5 string. Playing the Dean 4 string just feels like home. But there are tunes I definitely prefer to play on the 5.

Any suggestions for a direct recording preamp/D.I. Box/or software etc that would achieve ultra clanky, grand piano ish Tool, Overkill, or Anthrax like bass tones?

Just plugin to the hi-Z input on your interface. Duplicate track after recording and pop in a plugin like Neural DSP's Parallax.

Some gorgeous instruments on display here. I have two basses, an Ibanez SR5000 and a Warwick Vampyre SN-5.

I recently replaced the electronics in the Warwick with an MEC preamp. Had earlier replaced the Delano pickups that the previous owner had installed with MECs, which is the stock pickup.

For jams, I usually take my Darkglass Microtunes 900, which has a BK3 and Vintage mode built in. It can plug directly into the PA system or a cab.

Used to own an ESP Horizon II five-string that I foolishly sold, but such is life and GAS.

i started going down the rabbit hole of mic'ing my bass cab, gonna throw this in my hartke 4x10 and see what happens

Live or for recording ?

It’s a good driver.

421or RE20 are both great mics on bass cabs.

If live grab 2 channels and DI one with a REDDI or a Sans amp and blend it with a mic channel.
