I found this recent Lita Ford interview very uplifting. Let me back up. Since I was very young I loved all things BC Rich. So much that when I got my first real job I finally got the money together to custom order a BC Rich Mockingbird Archtop Supreme. I wanted a house full of BC Rich guitars. Bernie Rico Sr passed away from a heart attack on my 28th birthday. I spoke with him a few times over the phone and emailed him. I was crushed. BC Rich has not been the same company since. It seems since then a company called HHI bought the rights to BC Rich but really only interested in the imported stuff. HHI was not a custom shop. Not even a guitar company. Just a business that appearently thought they could make a profit on the improt line. As far as I can tell HHI would contract out the handmade stuff to various builders and charge an absurd price to the customer. I was done with them years ago. I didn't know who was biulding their guitars and they priced themselves out of a custom with me. So when I heard what Lita said in this interview I think I have reason to be optimistic about BC Rich handmade guitars future. Kinda would like to see Bernie Rico Jr in the mix, but again... Lita Neil and KK should stear the ship right. Here is the video https://youtu.be/6pHTu1vnrMc

I was a big BC Rich fan and user back in the day, mostly NJ and Platinum series (I was kid then, and had my new '78 norlin LP custom, late 60's Ric 4001 that I wish I never sold!...so other guitars were more for playing dive bars where I didn't want my good guitars put in harms way. Plus, it was hair metal and thrash for me, so bright color pointy guitars were part of the costume!). Always wanted an original 10-string Bich, but now I have my GAS on a different BC Rich.

I custom ordered Spider/Widow bass from BC Rich similar to the one used back in the day by DD Verni (Overkill). I don't do metal or shred these days, but I am considering a new Stealth, Chuck Schuldiner Tribute...can't justify the US handcrafted at nearly $2K more for something that is just for fun.

some pics of my old (now sold) Spider bass are at an old site of mine: http://web.mac.com/a_chaoidh/iWeb/Site/ ... 0Bass.html

Nice. I remember an ad with Blackie Lawless and that model. BC Richs aren't for everyone but for those of us that do like them they're pretty special.

I wanted the traditional headstock look with rosewood and the "R"; EMGs, badass bridge and schallers. I kept the original spec sheet/order form that I had to sign with a non-refundable deposit, so I was all in.

It kills me that they make a $300 or so import model of this today though...

when I ordered my Spider bass, the dealer said they didn't get many custom BC Rich orders because most people that could afford it buy something more traditional...and better! WTF?!

BC Rich, seems to be love or hate...few in between users. you were all in, or out it seems.

hope this thread gets more lovers than haters...

Cool clip Jim!
My favorite was either the Stealth or the Ironbird.
I like the wild body styles.

I've played enough BC Rich guitars to know that they can be as good as anything made. However even I realize that because of their wild body shapes many will not buy them. So I ask BC Rich/HHI how can you charge over 5 grand out the door price for a guitar today that sold for about 1200 back in the 80s? I yeah i know that was a long time ago but this much of a markup? Hell in 97 I paid around 2 grand for my custom build and it's signed by Bernie Sr.

Played Gunslingers for about 15 years, they were my "go to" guitars for a long time until Brent started building, then I switched, still have a soft spot for them though....

Absolutely... I had a an Eagle Supreme for many years and it was a excellent made instrument but your right. Its over 3K these days and I actually paid around $700 for in the late 70's

Hi guys,
I was a huge BC Rich fan in the early 80s...... Had one of the first 10 string Rich Biches and two early Mockingbirds back then. Like a bonehead, I traded them in the late 80s. I just recently found this one for sale for $1200 at a guitar center in Nashville and grabbed it.

Best sounding and playing guitar in my collection. This one is a 1998 Mockingbird SLP with an arched top. The handmade guitars are the best around IMHO. At least the ones when Bernie Rico Sr and Jr were involved. I've been playing Les Pauls on stage for years, but this Mockingbird smokes them for playability and tone. I've got a Lindy Fralin Pure PAF in the bridge and a Duncan 59 in the neck.

Never understood how these guitars turned into the Metal guitar of choice. I got hooked as a kid, seeing Aersomith in 1978. Perry playing the Red Bich and a blonde Mockingbird. Then bootleg came out, with the inside cover of Joe holding the Red Bich......I had to have one.

Laars I always dug the JP photo but also one day I was sitting in my sisters room listening to some records and I see this ad in the back pages of a guitar mag. It had the blue/grey Warlock thats in the 83 catalog. I thought it was the coolest guitar on the planet. I sent a few bucks in the mail for catalog and that was it. Once I got that catalog I was hooked.

By the way killer score on that badass Mock!

This to me was the ULTIMATE in metal back in the 80's.
I am sure most of the old guys here remember this one.
Great flick and KILLER SOUNDTRACK! Fastway was the shit back then!!

Yeah Dan I remember that movie.

Here is some wankage on my Mock from a few years back

I remember that clip. Forgot what amp that was though.
Man you freaking rip it up on the Fretboard my man!!
I cant do the reverb or delay though.....I tried it and I guess I been playing dry so many years it seems to be too much for me.
But it sounded good when you were rocking.

Lol. Thanks. Hopefully I have gotten a little better since this vid.

What amp was that?

Stock Marshall Vintage Modern boosted with either a Keeley modded SD-1 or BDD. Intellifex in the loop for some delay.
