BE and early VH

Just finished up my Frankenstrat and want to dial in some VH up through around 82/83 I guess. What BE settings have others used? I assume backing off on the preamp gain to a proper level and letting the attenuator do its magic is the best path?
 
Well gain on 10 treb at 7, mid at 8 or so, bass depends on the vol you play, presence 3 to 4 master your choice.

Dave, here is the other question that this dude should be asking.... what about the pickup? Where are you at now for what sounds great for Classic VH with the pickup? Still the 2nd Degree Blackbelt?

The pickup effects everything. And every different pickup that I use changes the character drastically.

Oh, and don't forget Scumback 25watt Blackbacks!
 
currently using an arcane brownbucker, and will be testing custom 78, and an old Dimarzio super distortion from the 70's. The MCP sounds like another one to try. Many options here.
