Well today you will hear the pedal vs the Engl gain.
Will make it very clear what's being played and you guys decide.
By the way....
The BE OD is 'out for delivery' as I post this. :D

Left track is pedal. Right is the amp.
Derek sent me the info.
Hard to tell since it all sounds so good.

listening on iphone, DOH!

Get a used amp with a killer power section, and buy this pedal...no need to spend 4K!

If the left track is the pedal, I am shocked! It sounds chewier and meaner than the right side (amp?)!

Yep, the jig is up lol. I thought I would try to dupe those guys who like to overthink shit lol, figured I'd lead off with the supposed lesser tone as most would think I'd be trying try to mask it on the other side.

Left track is the pedal through the SB plexi channel (set 100% clean), the right panned track is the SB BE channel. To be fair, remember, Dave has always made it clear - the SB BE channel is a bit more vintage sounding than the BE100 amp, which IS what the pedal takes after...that is a BIG reason why I wanted to add the pedal to my mix of gear, it's different enuff to warrant the purchase. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the character of the SB BE channel for lots of things, and when I hit it with my Timmy pedal, it can sound gnarly too. Now if there was a BE100 owner here that had the pedal too, THAT would be an even more interesting side by side.

Anyways, that was fun, thanks for taking part! Other stuff used for anyone interested: US charvel san dimas with Super Distortion for both sides, blackback speaker mic'd with a 57 and e906.

The pedal vs. amp argument gets as stupid as the modeller vs. amp argument. Fueled mainly, IMO, by dudes have a hard time with the fact that you don't need a $4k head to get good tone. Fact is, the tone in the clip the OP has offered up is better than half a the "amp" clips guys post here anyway so AFAIC, argument over. Pedals through a clean channel can sound as good as an amp. Who gives a fuck if the resistors, caps, opamps and diodes are inside the amp or outside?

Carry on.

A lot of the BE-OD clips on here are people running it through their other Friedman amps like Smallbox. When you add it all up that's a rather expensive rig too ($2800 + $200), which is getting pretty close to a $3700 BE100.

Would love to hear more clips of it running into common backline amps like JCM2000, Twin Reverb, JC120 etc. Or practice amps like Blackstar HT, Orange Terror, Laney IRT etc.

Sounds like it's doing a pretty respectable job through a Pro Jr though:

Now this sounds great!^^^^

My pedal just arrived. Middle of yard work. Just taking a break now to post.
Gonna fire it up later this afternoon.

I would hire a person to cut the grass, plug in the pedal and start "cuttin' heads". :)

I was at Guitar Center today and almost bought a Fender Blues Jr, just to use with my pedal. :) I know eventually I'm going to break down and get one. I will say though, it is doing a great job with my Axe-Fx II but I know a real tube amp will add a touch of magic.

I'm going to run mine into my Deliverance 60, and Tremoverb in modern channel/blues mode, i'm guessing that will sound awesome.

Well made a couple of videos.
Yesterday didnt work out as I wanted. Life got in the way.
Only had about 20 minutes with it. Really agressive.
Like it
No true /a/b challenge. The Engl has a shared EQ and it wasnt working going back and forth between the clean and lead channel. Will have a better test when I get my Recto up and running.
