Whoa thats a nice bass! I play bass from time to time. It's a nice skill to have, especially when playing or writing new material.

I started out on bass, LOVE playing bass, it's honestly my "true passion" I get my enjoyment out of listening to a killer bassist than most guitarists.

I play guitar out of necessity, can't find a decent guitar player that I mesh well with, the one I had moved off, so I started playing guitar myself.....

would LOVE to find a decent band to do some Tool/FNM type stuff with.

Very nice!

My dream bass is an old Spector NS2, like this one...

My buddy has one and it's unbelievable. An incredible playing and sounding bass. He'll never sell :(

I see those for sale quite often.... I'll send ya links when I do ;)

I'm working out a deal right now for an Ampeg SVT4 Pro, and a Mesa cab or 2....

I've got 4 basses, so no need to buy one, although, I'm thinking about trying to talk a friend into building me a Wal clone once SGD gets the pick-ups and preamp cloned correctly. Cant afford $5000+ (Base price for a Wal is 5,330.09) for a bass or anything else other than a car. :)

Yep, that's a bass I would pay money for if I had it. It's so much harder finding a really good bass than finding a a really good guitar.

actually there are ALOT of KILLER basses.....

Wal
Sadowsky
Alembic
Ken Smith
Ken Lawrence
Spector

a shit ton of small company builders making AWESOME basses.

then there's always the old Standard

Fender
Musicman
G&L
ect.....

lots of killer choices, Wal & Sadowsky happen to be my favorites.

The Wal bass. Didn't Geddy Lee use one during the Presto/Hold Your Fire era? Very cool bass!!

I've played bass in a couple of bands. I enjoy it as it allows me to go off and really get into the music on stage. Always end up coming back to guitar though.

ugh i would love to buy a Wal someday but man they are just super expensive.
my main bass is a 2000 fender deluxe jazz bass. i love that thing to death. i even have a MIM Fender P-bass and that thing rules. the only other bass i'd really love to try/own is a musicman

Bass is where I started as well. My favorite bass has been a Lakland 55-01 for the last 6 or 7 years. Currently, my bass rig consists of:

Lakland 55-01 w/ Nordstrand Jazz pickups in soapbar cases
MIA Jazz bass

Mesa Boogie M-2000 head
Bergantino NV215 cab

I borrowed one from a friend of mine for recording... I cried when I had to give it back.

Here's my baby atm, built it myself, Fender body, Warmoth neck, Various hardware, Fender pick-ups, (gonna be changed out with SGD NEO Jazzbuckers soon), and a custom 3-band preamp I had HBE make for me.

NICE!!!

I'm working on picking up an Ampeg SVT4 Pro, and either a Mesa PH1000 (4x10/1x15), or 2 Mesa PH212 (2x12).... should know in the next couple of days if the deal is gonna go through or not. :D

how is that M-2000? I always wanted to try one but i think i'd regret getting rid of my bass 400+ in order to get one.

I started on guitar and switched to bass (mostly due to Geezer Butler, and that we could never find bass players or singers at the time though guitarists and drummers seemed to be everywhere!)  played mostly bass back in the day adn consider myself to be a bass player more than a guitarist. In a metal band I was in around '93, I was warming up with some RHCP bass lines at practice and the drummer joined in! At the time, I didn't know he was into it (guitarist and singer were not into the RHCP  ). This resulted in a few funk gigs in a side project.

Only got back into guitar so I can teach my son but rediscovered how much I dig, and missed guitar playing.

My bass of choice is a Ric 4003. I owned a late '60s 4001 which I regret selling, but the 4003 can get the 4001 tones, as well as its own modern interpretation. I still have my original 80's Steinberger L bass which will never be sold.

I used ADA and Mesa Boogie gear though I prefer, and now have, Trace Elliot.

Still dig playing bass though my gear fund is more focused on guitar these days!

any bass junkies on the night crew?

Jugs, I sure can't play bass worth a darn, but I appreciate a good bass player! Billy Sheehan is one of my favorites to listen to when I'm in a more frenetic mood! He does a good bit of varied stuff, from Talas to DLR, Mr. Big, Niacin, and some of his solo albums. Runs the gamut!

I enjoy Sheehans work as well, I'm more of a Steve Harris, Justin Chancellor, Bob Daisley, Geezer, Eric Avery, etc.... good solid bassist with tasty chops, but not over the top. never got into the whole Victor Wooten, Jaco, etc.... thing, AMAZING bassists for sure, but I'd rather hear a bassist lock into a song and throw his own thing into it as well.

no downplaying those guys at all, total respect, just a different style than what really grabs me.

Yessir! Got myself a nice new rig as a birthday present for myself last month, a G-K 400RB head with an Ampeg 4x10 cab to go with my musicman

Yep, got a noise complaint the first day I fired her up

...but it was at lunchtime so the building super couldn't do sh*t
