isn't always simple, so I admit that Mike Fortin's "pedal with power amp" inspired me to build a 7 Watt (2xECC99) poweramp, which I will integrate into my Black Tiger Preamp - for late night playing, sessions and (working on that) direct recording.

Here's a vid of the 7 Watter (Black Tiger into the power amp, inbetween is a G-Major). Expect the usual crappy playing at bedroom volumes :D

I've already made a new PCB for the Preamp (3RU), which will have the small poweramp included . . .

So thanks to Mike for the inspiration.

I really wish I could wrap my head around layouts/circuitry.

Gunna have to study up.. Billy Blades style.

It is just a driver stage, a cathodynPI and a push pull cathode biased double triode amp with vol, presence and depth. The preamp with midi and three channels is a bit more complicated though, still not rocket science.

Sure. Via Skype. "The Ultimate Plexi Brown Sound Mod" with three diodes, four resistors and five (selected under a blue moon) caps. Material cost: 2$, duration: 4:30.
Price: 1,000 $ :D

btw - the schem for a single ECC99 poweramp (3.5 watt) is here.

It has one "fault" though: when the depth is fully "off" it sounds too thin (the 47k craps the PI a bit), I have to work on that and correct that.

Other than that it is fine (I always have some depth :D ) for a 230V AC B+ and 1,2A 6,3V transformer. OT is a Hammond 125C (22k, in my case (2xECC99) 10k).

Gunna have to dive into this.

How often do you do Skype lessons?

HA!

sorry, guess I managed to miss the sarcasm.

Yeah.. I'm not very bright. :)

That sounded amazing!

So it wont be available as a separate pre-amp? It would be great if you could just plug in some headphones or send the signal through a home hi-fi. Something like the old Rockman, but with amazing tones.

As always, you do great work.

hi olaf. just a couple of quick questions. 1) why ecc 99's for the power section? and 2) what happens if you just want to use the bt pre amp but not the power section? does the power section go to a dummy load.. or do you just turn it off independently? i do like the concept btw. it's a great idea.
also belated hbd. i was on the road this summer and wasn't able to access my computer. hope you had a good one. :)

Thank you. The concept is to have three things:
- a normal preamp (to feed big power amps)
- a compensated recording out (taken off the output transformer, which a "normal" preamp has not
- a small power amp for small volume playing

Hi Dave,

a belated HBD to you too!

The ECC99 sounds fuller than an ECC82 (12AU7) an handles more volts. Using just the preamp is easy: just unplug the speaker, the jack will put some things to ground to make the power amp quiet like a sleeping baby :D

Thanks :)

that makes sense. thanks. had to go to rehearsal this afternoon so i didn't have time to look at the pcb or schematic.

damn. shit.

hell.

i could gig with this through a regular old mosvalve and have better sound than i do now.

shit.
