What do you think are the best bang-for-buck guitars and amplifiers <$1000?

Amplifiers:
  • EVH50W

Guitars:
  • Warmoth unfinished showcase body w/ musikraft neck (I did a recent build for right under $1k)

Amps: Mark V/25 (yes, I know it's over $1k, but damn)
Guitars: Carvin, LTD 1000 series

New or used? There's a ton of great stuff for under a grand used - new, I'm not so sure..

Used Hamer USA guitars. Really hard to beat and way undervalued on the used market!!!

BC Rich high end import lines.
USA Jacksons, if you shop for a good deal

5150 ( old ones )
Recto's
Mesa MK3

Amps: Mesa Mark III, Peavey VTM120, Randall rg100es/rg100ht (SS), Ampeg vh-140c (SS)

Guitars: LTD series

I'm mainly talking about metal gear, but i know old Ampeg tube amps can be had cheap and they rule for other rock styles...

The LTD EC series. Any of the older 500's and up, and new 401's and up, Used or New, are AWESOME guitars.

5150/6505 series amps from Peavey.

Avatar cabs are GREAT cabs.

5150/6505
5153 50 watt
Mesa Mark III
sometimes you can find a Mark IV at $1000 or less. Always a killer deal. It's not enough but they do come up.
Mesa Rectifier series.
Marshall DSL
Marshall 900 Mk III
Marshall 900 SL-X

Used EBMM guitars, depending on model, new Sterling guitars are awesome for the price, current production Charvels, used Peaveys. I've seen a lot of good Wolfgang specials (non exp), HP Specials and several other USA guitars under a grand that are KILLER.

Backed on the DSL. I brought the 50 watt, used, had it looked over, power tubes swapped and properly biased. Apparently, an issue with that head was inconsistency with how they were biased from the factory?

Anyway, once I had it looked over, it's perfect. No problems, whatsoever. Hopefully have it a very long time.

The Peavey XXX/3120 is pretty cool too and can be had for reasonable amounts of money.

Doesn't work as well for everyone as a 5150, but it's still somewhat "familiar-sounding".

Used is very broad since you can find amazing deals if you're lucky. Within the last 4 years I got a JCM 800 2203 and a 6505+ both at $250 a piece. Also, Peavey amps are always dirt cheap on the used market.

Having said that, I'll speak for new. I assume $1k for guitar and $1k for amp? If so:

Guitars
PRS SE - As of Wednesday this week I will have owned 4, and kept 2 over the years; a 245 and new Custom 24. The quality of the SE line keeps getting better year after year in my opinion.

Sterling by MusicMan - import EBMM guitars. I have 2 AX40 guitars, one of which I bought early this year that has the DiMarzio Axis pickups stock. The Petrucci models are very popular.

Amps
Jet City - even the JCA22H is a killer and versatile amp that can easily play any venue despite being "only" 20 watts. I have owned a 100H, and now own a 50H and soon a Friedman modded 20H (along with the Earhart 50). Love these amps to death.

Marshall - the new DSL line is great, and the DSL100 seems to sound and behave just like the older JCM2000 models. I like the new ones with the resonance knob rather than that useless Deep switch. Even the DSL15H puts out some damn good tone.

Getting ready to find out what's up with evh special, stealth mode. 699$, set up, to my door.

Amps - 5150s, 6505s, Rectos

Guitars - LTD 1000 series, ECs and Vipers, PRS SEs

I got a brand new 6534+ in classifieds cant keep as im in to much crazy debt with guitars :(
