Since eBay and Reverb have stopped using PayPal, I've been looking for an alternative. CL is dead for gear sales in my area.

eBay just charged me 12.55% on a Mikro Mk II. Charged it on the tax/shipping too. Some autist kid will likely crush them.

You could always list somewhere like reverb as local pickup only and talk to the buyer beforehand about other payment methods. I recently bought a head this way.

Well, I spent a ton of time, energy and money building HTTPS://ToneFind.com and got some users, got some listings, but not much traction. I’m about ready to close it up and just concede that people actually like Reverb deep down don’t want an alternative. It’s just too big and has everything and so many tools that took years to develop. It’ll be hard for anyone to compete and unseat it. And it’s big target that’s fun to blame for other crappy sellers/buyers and tax laws.

I'd be sorry to see it close. Do you mind if I ask how you're marketing it?

I think I've bought 30 items over the past few months, gear and auto related on Ebay and used PayPal every time.
??
Most recent was last week.

I actually get on your site from time to time. I was one of reverb's biggest users before they started turning into another ebay. I am sorry that it isn't blowing up. I cannot stand reverb or ebay, and won't use them period. I think the problem is that your site is relegated to these forum sites where we already have a good transaction situation.

You purchase using PP. As a seller, all payments are handled by eBay. I suppose I should just go with the flow...

Yeah, I knew it would take time and wouldn’t grow fast. It took several years before Reverb became relevant at all. The Reverb website is well designed, has a ton of features and hundreds of thousands of listings.

I’ve spent over $20k of my own cash on it so far and that’s no where near enough investment to unseat or even compete with a large player like Reverb. I just have to decide if I keep going for the long haul or just cut my losses and move on. My regular job as a CIO already takes up every waking hour...

I was buying Facebook, Google and Instagram Ads and someone to manage. Did that for about 6 months
Do you think it would be worth contacting some local shops who already know you and asking them to list? Like you, I would have thought there is room in this market for another option.

I’ve had some luck using Mercari, pretty sure you can use PayPal on it but I personally haven’t checked

RT and TGP have gear sales sections?
I posted a couple of racks fans here, though I doubt they will sell. I think ours is a dying art... I can run a Gibson R7 for nearly half its value (on CL) and not receive a response for weeks. It took me 3 months to get this Gibson LP R7 (R9 neck) sold on CL. One of the finest guitars I've ever owned. Had I not also had the Pelham Blue, I would have kept it. The only negative was the fuck-head who owned it before me decided to practice his luthier skills by filing down the frets. I'm seeing more and more of this bullshit, thanks to fret-leveling kits available on Amazon.

After a ban or two on TGP, I can't bring myself to pay for a sponsorship anymore. FB Marketplace is ok, CL is no good for anything over $1000 (generally), and so it's RT, eBay or Reverb. I need to sell a Les Paul and a Wolfgang soon, but don't want to get crushed by fees on top of shipping.
