phaser dialed all the way back is cool. I did like the -9 +9 when i had an axe fx but it had to be dialed in at a very low mix.I can't do it anymore since im running one cab. For me I love the el capistan on single mode a or b with a pretty new tape sound with little warble mixed just loud enough to hear it with ought allot of repeats. Time needs to be in that 250-500 ms. Its an always on delay setting!

A touch of delay if I'm playing some old school British metal in the vein of Priest and Maiden. Bone-dry otherwise. Look into installing blower switches on your guitars. I have an SG-X with no control pots whatsoever and it just rips.

Most of the time I just run dry. But effects i have tried and like are:

If I'm running a single amp I like to run a EHX POG 2 with the dry output up all the way and the -1 octave up about a 1/4 to 1/2 way. Really just depends on my mood.

If I'm running a stereo amps I like to run a stereo delay (I just use a Boss DD-7) with the delay set for very short (for Boss it's 50ms) and delay level set for unity and no feedback. It's pretty cool. Kinda sounds like you are double tracking your live guitar. It's really awesome if you are the only guitar player.

Bone dry. I occasionally add something for flavour (either flange, tremolo, delay or reverb). But I only add the effect(s) briefly/temporarily, and for specific parts. Most of the time, it's dry.

There's nothing wrong with a short delay to widen things up a bit. It won't dull your mix one damn bit.

Nothing.
Don't be that guy that has chorus and delay on a heavy riffing tone. It's terrible.
Keep it tight man.

A touch of reverb or the W/D/W rig Steve mentioned above.

This!! I actually use a W/D set-up since I do not want too much delay and it still sounded pretty damn good, plus I an too lazy to wire/connect both of my SDE3000s for a W/D/W.

I have 2 SDE1000s that I use for this. I'd like to put my Roland SRV2000 reverb in there, but I'm not sure how to slip it in without the 'verb getting lost in the delays, so it's usually 'verb OR delay, not both. I know I need a mixer, and I've got one, but I don't know how to hook it up. Any ideas ? And does anybody know the SE70 settings Doug Aldrich and Joe Holmes use ? Or is it just there to split the signal ???

Lots of good suggestions here.

I used to run bone dry and still do sometimes, but have found I like the SMALLEST amount of Ducking Delay.

So small that you barely notice it when it's on, but when you turn it off, something is definitely missing.

Just thickens up the tone a bit. Really like it.

Dunno about Aldrich, but Joe just splits the signal with it…

Steve

slight delay at times ..when it gets real heavy it goes off for clarity..

I have my delay output very low so it is subtle when playing rhythm, but it is more noticable when playing leads.
