Its been awhile, but I always ran 57's live. They cut in a mix no matter what, and you cant kill one
That was a few years back, I'm sure there are some better alternatives now.
I know with the amount of live playing your doing you've already been there and done that a hundred times
If we were still doing live gigs, I'd put one of my good mike-pre's in my rack no matter what mike I chose to run, even on an SM57 they will make a huge difference going to the snake/board. I only know 1 guy who's doing that, not sure why it isint more common except that good mike pre's are pricey. The difference at the mains through FOH is well worth it. He's running a UA LA610 that he also uses for recording. He dosent use it for smaller gigs where there is less PA, just bigger ones.
He says its harder for somebody else's soundguy to screw up his sound with it that way

I loved my Heil PR30. Just sold it like a week or 2 ago, and I am sort of regretting that decision. Been using the 57 for a while, too, and its pretty meh, but its what you sort of expect to hear...so lots of people ears are just used to it. I did this with a PR30.

I just ordered an Audix D2 and a Heil PR20.
They both start boosting at 1kHz and start rolling off at 5kHz.
Flat by 10kHz.
They also boost 150Hz 2 or 3dB.
I'm hoping these will capture the mids that I feel I've been missing.
This matches up well to the frequency response of my V30 speakers.
I only use standard tuning and Drop D from time to time.
I also use passive, vintage output humbuckers.
I can't wait to try them. I have a feeling that I'm on to something here.

The Heil PR20 showed up today! I Quickly did some reamping with it.
It sounds fantastic! KILLS my SM57! Audix D2 should show up on Monday.

Don't bother! I got it today and recorded with it.
It's super crispy and bright.
I took a look at the frequency response chart that came
with the mic and it was COMPLETELY different than the one
I saw online and made my purchase decision from.
This goes back up on Ebay ASAP!
