....for now.....

I searched for a while till I found what to my ears sounds like the best high powered greenback style speaker on the market. I have tried them all from Scumbacks to Celestions, and for my taste, WGS did an amazing job with the Invader! So smooth, great bark, perfect mids and the lows are tight. Man they sound good

I got them for $79 a piece. I also liked the Lynchbacks...but those are more Vintage meets modern. I am going to try the Celestion Creamback when it is released and I am thinking a Creamback mixed with a Lynchback will be a home run. In the end, I will always come back Celestions it seems....they just do it for me. :)

I think these would blend well!

This is from Rick at Celestion, awesome dude! He is a huge help!!!
"In "my experience", they have similar low end, except the CreamBacks's have traditional Greenback mids whereas the Lynchback may seem a bit more scooped (but not to the point of sounding overly modern). They still have a vintage vibe. The CB's sound like a Heritage GB with a bigger punchier low-end. We did this so they would sound 'big' in both 1x12 or 2x12 cabs, open or closed. I promise we are close to production....the last I heard was mid June. The UK shop can only do so much and they are running flat out at the moment, hence the delays........simply swamped! All the Best," Rick

Have you tried tried the Weber 1265's? I have those in a Rhodes 2x12 and they are what you describe in these WGS. WGS cannot be beat in the price category though, but I've have yet to try any of them. I've played the Splawn SB which is a beefed up GB and those sound killer too.

Eminence Private Jacks for me. Very true to the lower what greenback response, without vearing into G12-65 territory. Once in G12-65 territory my favorites are old late 70s ones.

Invaders are pretty special! I think the WGS ET65s are also wonderful speakers. And for the price, they can;t be beat.

The Reapers are also awesome at the "better" Greenback, better lows, better highs.

I still find the Invader the best....two in a closed back 212 is Greenback heaven.

I love mine too. I was thinking of at some point trying the Scumbacks but after reading your post I may not.

go to 26:10 then 33:20

Why? Are they using Private jacks?

Marc Ford did - his 4x12s were loaded with them that show. I pointed out two of his solos, one with an SG and one with a Tele. IMO, that is greenback tone through and through, and just about as good as it gets.

I loaded up a Stone Age 4x12 with the PJs and put it next to a couple vintage Marshall cabs loaded with pre-rola G12Ms. The PJs are a bit tighter on the bottom end and therefore great with higher gain applications. But still woody and open sounding like the old ones. And I haven't found another Eminence I've gotten along with, but the PJs do what they should.
