looking for recommendations from those with real-world experience. I'm about to buy some and I want the best bang for my buck. I would rather spend a little more for quality and reliability than get a "deal"

Thanks in advance

In that price range, I'd be going for customs.

Dreamearz.com is one of the best around IMO. Almost all of the performers in my town are using them. I will likely get some in the near future, since I just started gigging regular again.

I just played a gig on the weekend.. you know what I realized? I have 140$ Suhr in ears which are essentially flat and I like them that way. When you are playing music, you just really want to hear yourself and the band. You aren't listening to enjoy yourself. I would say, if you can get your own mix to get what you want to hear in your ear, that's the most important thing. Most sound boards for shows that most of us play are going to be average sound wise so it isn't like you need great stuff to listen to mediocre club mixes. I just pop one side of my in ear out so I still get a bit of protection from my cymbals but enjoy the sound in the room out of the speakers as well.

My son who is a drummer uses in ears and in about a yearand a half he has gone thru 2 prs of $140 shure's.
Thats why the thread I would rather but on pr of high dollar in ears than keep replacing what fails

I guess it is luck of the draw, mine have held up but it is a bit like those shitty Vic Firth isolation headphones that are horribly built and stop working after a few months. I guess in that case, I would go for build quality and durability over sound.

yea luck of the draw I'm sure , thanks for your input

What I would suggest would be some to look at some of the Shure line like the 215's or 535's ,or possibly some of the lower end Westone's like the W30 or W40. I have some W40's, and they fit the best out of all my in ears and seem pretty sturdy. I also have some Noble Audio and Campfire Audio, both of which sound better than the Westone's but are probably less suited to stage duty.

You definitely want something with replaceable cables as that is the most likely thing to go wrong with them.

Save your money my friend , get a try here KZ AS10 : https://www.gearbest.com/earphones/pp_009119292742.html
If you don t like , you got a very good spare for sure ! Works very well for me (guitar live situation)

If it were me, I'd go with Shure 535s and custom ear pieces. I had a pair of the older 530s for years and was one of the best electronics purchases I ever made.

Are you talking about just the earbuds , or the wireless system as well?

I really like my Westone AMpro30s. The ambient SLED thing is pretty cool, and the keep up with the bashing for 8 months now.

How's the iso? Custom earbud compatibility?

I have the AM Pro 10 set for my first buds and I like them a lot. The ambient feature is really nice. I can still hear the environment around me with my mix. I just got the cheapest set at first because I dropped a grand on the wireless and mixing equipment. I planned (still plan) on getting a better set, and my budget is similar.

I'm going to get molded buds made at some point. My budget is going to be about the same. I'm leaning towards Alien Ears, but I don't have any experience with anything.

I can vouch for Westone over Shure though.

My drummer had a lot of problems with those. He had to get custom molds to get them to seal, and they've given him a lot of trouble. I would say that if we added up the amount of replacements he'll need in the next decade, he could have just got the better buds (eliminating human error of course).

Then again, you won't cry when you leave them at a venue like you will a $500 set of custom molds.

+1 for the am30’s by Westone. I’ve been using for 12 months and they sound great and have put up with my antics!
