I wrote / posted awhile back and someone very nice suggested what preamp to buy that was
all tube, and it was not that expensive. Especially used. I only remember that it was all tube
and it hasn't changed all that much over the years. I'm thinking it may have been a rocktron,
but can't remember. Any suggestions?

I want something in a head that can keep up with a drummer at least, and that has enough gain on tap.
I'd love something that has that Plexi type tone. I love those amps, but can't afford one of those! I'm considering one of the Laney Ironheart series heads as they are killer price and use 3 preamp tubes and EL34's in the power map just like a marshall. I understand they are JJ tubes too,..

Anyone used the Ganiac 2 preamp by the way? If so, what did you think of it?

Thanks
Tim

I'm confused, how is a preamp gonna keep up with a drummer? Unless you have or are planning to get a power amp, it sounds like you need a head...

I hear a lot of good things about the Engl e530. I believe that I used to know a guy that used it for plexi type stuff, not sure about that though

Hey JSP. I was confusing. I meant' a preamp and power amp.. Sorry about that.. A head rack type head.. Sorry..

Hey man, I tried a friends Carvin x100b I think it was called, it was one of the newer models, and for the 300 bucks he got it for used, it sounded great!! I know you said and pre and power amp but check those out. I think there is a clip on youtube from the LA Guitar Show from a year or two ago. Check it out. For the money, you cant beat it! Some big name players have used these.

Get a Mesa Boogie Mark iv, rack it and be done with it?
