Best interface for Bias?

I just purchased Bias and Jam Up Pro for my iPhone. Thought I would give it a try for portable home practice/recording before I spend the money on something like a Yamaha THR10 or the Line 6 Amplifi. I am going to split the stereo signal to L/R Fostex powered desktop monitors. I currently have an iStomp iRig and the Line6 port. I haven't had a chance to compare them in Bias yet but I was wondering if there is one that is known to be exceptional for this set-up. Of these two, I'm leaning toward the iStomp because it already has 1/4" stereo outputs. iRig uses the headphone jack to connect to the iPhone and the Line 6 uses the 5pin connector. I couldn't tell too much of a difference when I played them through Garage Band a long time ago.

Anything that goes into your connection port is going to be better; sending the signal into your headphone port and back out the same way is going to cause a lot of interference. I use an Apogee Jam and a friend uses the original Peavey headphone one, and the difference is really noticeable.

When you get into high gain stuff, the noise floor between the two is definitely something you can hear, and it's even more apparent when recording into GarageBand. Use the SonicPort and run an 1/8" out to a splitter for your monitors.

Thanks for the advise! I'll look into the Apogee Jam also.

What's really fun? Connecting JamUp>Audiobus>GarageBand for backing tracks and loading it into your FX return on your amp; something about using a Recto patch into my Marshall always makes me laugh really hard. I'm weird like that.

Run a 1/8" cable out of the headphone port of the iPad into a 1/4" adapter and then into the FX return. Basically bypasses the preamp and replaces it with whatever 'amp' you're using in JamUp or BIAS. It's a blast.

I will be trying this soon, heard audiobus is amazing.

It lets you connect all your apps like bias, jamup, GarageBand ect...

What is audiobus used for?

Yeah, it's like virtual 'cables'...let you hook apps together, like JamUp for guitar into a recording app like GarageBand. It lets you use whatever supports it; I have synth apps and other guitar apps and drum apps and whatever. The update they just did actually has an IAP that lets you chain as many apps together as your iPad will run; I think I did about 25 all together into GarageBand just to see.

Some apps are just FX, like reverbs or delays or whatever, and it's got different slots, so you can chain em together...JamUp into a really good delay into a synth into a reverb into a drum app into GarageBand. It's a blast to mess around with.

ok, so I spent a little time with Bias this evening. I'm getting all kinds of latency and the tones (through headphones) sound horrible. I'm guessing it must be the Line6 Mobile In interface. Is there a setting I'm missing? I have the latency set low in both Bias and Jam UP.

Don know man; only ever used the Jam or Duet. Got a pic? How much did it cost? Was it one of the ones that go in/out of the headphone jack and doesn't use the connector port?

Played with it again this evening. The latency fluctuated. It was ok at first, then after I began tweeking amps and trying different effects with JamUp Pro, it got worse. I then completely closed the apps and restarted them and the latency seemed much better. I'm running an iPhone 5 with the Line 6 MobileIn interface which has the 30 pin connector. I also have to use an adapter for the new mini pin connector of the iPhone 5. I use the headphone jack output of the iPhone with a stereo Y-splitter into two (left and right) Fostex powered monitors. I'm thinking that I may of had too many apps open on my phone causing the latency to be very noticeable. Even when the latency is minimal I'm not really feeling the tone and feel of the models. Just not enjoyable to play. I still think something isn't right, or I just haven't found the right preset. :aww:

AudioBus has been the key for me and using garage band to increase volume without noise. Also I'm using the outputs on Sonic Port instead of the headphone out of my iPad. I run Bias>Jamup>GarageBand all in AudioBus. I have 0 latency. I turn the levels down a bit in Bias & Jamup & then turn up in GarageBand.

Weird. I don't know what could be causing it. I know if I have a whole bunch of apps open it can do that, but you already know that.

EDIT: try putting your phone in airplane mode. I use that on my iPad and have no noise/latency.

As far as the tones being uninspiring, I don't know. I think it sounds great for what it is; have you tried DLing some other rigs? Getting some of the bundles or whatever? Or even running it in the FX loop of your amp? I blasted a 5150 model today thru my Marshall on like 8 and it sounded great!

Peavey AmpKit Link HD Lightning, with the AC adapter you can charger your iphone or ipad while you play!!! Works great!
