Try an Agile 3000 series....a new 3010 SE is like 350 shipped, try it for 30 days and return it if you don't like it. Go to Rondo music.com.....I have an agile that plays light years better than many used LPs I've tried over the past month. Nice Alnico pups, Graphtech nut...I won't say its as good as a Standard but its at least as good or better than any LP Studio I tried last month at 3 different GCs in the twin cities....and WAY better than any Epi I picked up.
+1
I have quite a few (mostly AL3100 models) and find them the best bang for the buck.

2 Great options:

Epiphone Bonamassa
Gibson Studio

Ive had the Epi and just picked up a 2011 Studio Satin series. It is stupid good....($550.00 with a hardcase) Check the specs out the studios, they are all over the place year to year but the 2011 have maple caps, burstbucker pro's and the full 50's size neck..

I had an ltd ec-1000 that was great, not sure how close to a true Lp, but I've now got a Burny.....and its awesome!!!!! I don't think it's a 70-80s one, I believe it's newer but it's a great guitar.

Just find a cheap used faded model. Nothing sounds like a Gibson LP, except The Heritage H150

I had a Burny, early to mid 80's, that was outstanding. Only problem was a neck warp issue, not sure if it happened from it being shipped form Japan or just being old and not cared for particularly well... So if going the Japanese LP route that is one of the best kept secrets in affordable guitar gear try to find one locally, because getting it shipped from Japan is always a gamble but Orvilles, Burnys, Grecos, etc are always showing up there

I think the generally accepted pecking order are Orville by Gibsons are top, then Orville, then Greco, then Burny, then Tokai but it's all on a case by case basis

Wow, just wow...
You guys are amazing! Thanks a lot to those who contributed. I'll be looking into the Burny, the Studio, Greco, and the PRS SE...

I was just trying to avoid a month's worth of reading and researching, as I usually tend to do for almost every detail. It took me almost 2 years to set up my first rig, starting with a body, then, pickups, then cabs, then amps, then speakers again, then another body, a neck for that body, then back to pickups...Is this normal for anyone else??

Definitely appreciate your guys' (you guys?, you're guys'??, I can't seem to get this to read right...) input on this. Cheer R

I want an Agile with thick cap!
I have a 7 string Epi gothic LP that is awesome! It was like 270 shipped, I put twice that in upgrades & it roars!

Solid Mahogany body with Maple top

Ebony fretboard

One piece Mahogany set neck (except in the 3200)

24 3/4” scale length

Individually hand filed 22 Jumbo frets

Die-cast Grover tuners

Pickups choice, depending on the model:

Type V Alnico humbuckers

Gold p90 pickups

Cepheus Passive Ceramic Pickups (7-strings ALs)

Bridge choice, depending on the model:

Graph Tech NVS2 bridge

Agile BM-003 (AL-3010 727)

Traditional 3 saddle (AL-727)

2 volume and 2 tone controls, with a 3-way selector

D’addario strings with Graph Tech nut

The only thing you might want to change is the pickups and pots.

I have a Korean Epiphone LP That's a Ltd Edition - as above, had to replace the tuners and pickups - nut is fine. Sounds great! Great flamed top as well.
