What say you Rig-Talk....... Based on overall character, records, hardware, longevity, command of the strike zone, presence on the field and overall stuff........

Who's the best of the last Quarter Century in the MLB?!?!?!?

To make it fair and given the career of some of these pitchers in both the NL and AL and per tradition of two Cy Youngs per season per respective league and since they are all amazing you are allowed two votes but you can cast a ballot for just one vote if you'd like as well.

All votes are confidential ^_^

any rookie pitcher that faces the Mets will get one.

Id add in Max Fried

Yeah honestly kind of didn't want to put Gerrit Cole or Greg Maddux because felt one was too old and one too young and Max Fried would be even younger........ I feel Cole could be though but Maddux was too old by the time 2000 hit and he still has great years but the best of his years were behind him in the last quarter century. I feel Tarik Skubal could easily be mentioned too given how he's doing but again too young maybe in 10 or 20 years that conversation could be had but yeah.

If it was the past 40 years it would be Maddux, Johnon and Martinez as a top 3 still but here although there are various metrics like WAR and K/9 as well as IP that can be considered I felt all had comparable IP/WAR/K9 to be considered but yeah some of Randys numbers would put him as the best based on that but if we look at ERA+ it gives us a deeper insight.

ERA+ (Adjusted Earned Run Average) is a pitching stat that adjusts a pitcher's ERA for ballpark factors and the difficulty of the league. It's a way to compare pitchers more fairly across different eras and with pitchers who play in different parks. 100 being leagues average and anything above 100 being above league average and anything below 100 being below league average. Simply put it measure production so a player with a 150 ERA+ produces 1.5 times better than the league average or the production of 1.5 players in one......

For example Randy didn't have one 200+ ERA+ season from 2000 till the end of his career neither did Maddux or Verlander.......

Kershaw had two and Martinez had 3 even though Randy Johnson would post more WAR than Martinez in the same season, thankfully they were in different leagues at the time or that would have been a hard one for writers to vote on. Martinez has 3 Cy Young Awards vs Johnsons 5 Cy Youngs but Martinez has more ERA Leader awards and more sub 3.00 seasons from 2000 till the end of his career than Johnson as well.....

And as said even in seasons where Johnson had more WAR than Martinez, Johnson never had one 200+ ERA+ season between 2000 to the end of his career....... Martinez had three 200+ ERA+ seasons...... not even Kershaw had as many and he had two 200+ ERA+ seasons but one of them was in the shortened 2020 Covid season....... Verlander had none...... Kershaw posted a 237 ERA+ in 2016 and 202 ERA+ in 2020........ amazing especially in the StatCast Era..... Kersh also has good number before and after StatCast in general and a career sub 3.00 ERA as does Martinez.

Again Verlander, Johnson and even Maddux had no 200+ ERA+ seasons from 2000 onwards...... Martinez had 3....... In 2000 Martinez posted a 291 ERA+ season, 202 ERA+ in 2002 and a 211 ERA+ in 2003 and 6 sub 3.00 ERA seasons in that time span including a 1.74 ERA in 2000...... also no one comes close to Martinez 11+ WAR 2000 season.

I mean Kershaw got a vote but just barely from me after looking at the stats he had some amazing seasons too and it's well deserved but if it was just one vote it would be for Pedro Martinez. As amazing as the others seasons were and they were all seasons from the stuff dreams are made of....... Martinez arguably had some of the best if not the best seasons in this last quarter century based on production and ERA+ in general....... I mean his 2000 season he produced nearly 3 times higher than league average and then went on to have another two seasons of 200+ ERA+............

It's just insane and well hats off to a real living legend walking amongst us. This guy was just unreal, defied all baseball logic and he well damn shouldn't exist but yeah....... dude really did some amazing stuff and nuff said.

The Magician.......

Lets compare Martinez and Johnsons 2000 season for example where they both won Cy Youngs in their respective leagues.....

Johnson had a 8+ WAR season then...... Martinez had a 11+ WAR season....

And while Johnson was amazing and had an amazing season with an ERA+ of 181........ Martinez had an ERA+ of 291 nearly a 100 point difference in ERA+ from the next best guy.......

It's just insane. Same goes for the rest of the following seasons, as good as Johnson was....... Martinez just had more production above league average in those seasons from 2000 onwards when accounting for ballpark factors, league and relative to times/eras and ERA+ in general.

Well I did warn that the Juan Soto contract was irrationally exuberant to begin with for so many reasons......... it never made sense to pay him so much for nothing in his career that showed as much not even an MVP or anything.....

Yeah the Soto contract was a scam and well the Mets bought the scam and are stuck with it for 15 years now unfortunately. The Bregman contract made more sense but yeah he got injured and it's not his fault really but Soto doesn't really have an excuse :dunno:

can you say BBS
Bobby Bonilla Syndrome, I think they are still paying his sorry ass.

Soto is a great player, definitely on the defense side hes more consistent.
But no big bats this far and he SO a lot.

he is standing further from the plate than he normally did last year. gets caught looking 2x a night off the outside corners

maybe he'll poke out a single. every deep fly ball he poses like a centerfold bitch waiting for cock

last week he hit one off the top of the wall and he just stood there looking at it with is arms folded like king tut.
he barely made it to first. he could had an easy double

the base running issue last night with him and Nemmo was not their fault. Umps never made a decision on a catch or trapped ball.
ended up being a trapped ball on the replay. not reviewable for some dumb reason

Even if he was half the player or the full player he was last season IMO he just wasn't worth that type of money........

Nothing he has ever done in his career has really earned him the highest paid contract in history........... No MVPs prior to the signing or anything worth a damn to deserve it really.......

Even if he met his projections for example the money paid for it wouldn't have made sense either........ in no world was anyone going to get their ROI paying Soto what he was asking given his ability relative to times and eras and just in general given his numbers and career.

Steve Cohen just has money to blow or in this case burn :dunno:

Come and vote or maybe mention a player you think should be on the list.
