best noise gates ?

No need for a gate. I simply control the strings, bending them to my will, letting them know when I want them to vibrate and at what amplitude. The connection between your brain and fingers is your gate.

That's like the guy who said you don't need a string dampener.

He was wrong, that guy, and if I could remember who he was, you can rest assured I would be holding a massive grudge against him.

I heard the decimator pro rack g is pretty good. I don't use gates myself though...

ISP is the best for sure.

Boss Noise Suppressor NS-2 is good also.
Doesn't color your tone. More control of the threshold than the decimator pedal.
Cheaper in price.

I got one of those new Rocktron Guitar Silencer pedals and I like it MUCH better than the ISP I had before. It even has a loop to run a non true bypass od pedal through if you so desire and it can power other pedals.

I think all gates color the tone a little but this one doesn't mess with it much and I'm a picky mofo. ;)

Boss NS-2 and the ISP G-string are the best pedal version noise gates IMO

Depends on how it's going to be used, I guess, but if you browse through the rigs Friedman has built, you'll see quite a few pro-rigs with cheaper noisegates then the ISP-stuff. A few examples:

Rob Caggiano of Anthrax. MXR Gate. Could have something in a rack, though.

Steve Stevens. Boss NS2. Can't see any other noisegates in the rack.

Slash uses an MXR SmartGate and a Ebtech Hum Eliminator

And then you have guys using the ISP-stuff like our own KingGuitar...

Point being... You don't necessarily need the ISP. What are you needing it for? Up front for noise from the guitar? In a loop with a few noisy pedals? In the effectsloop for higain-noise?

ISP on my board- works great, only engage when needed

hush pedals are better than boss and MXR, and quite cheap
the older big blue pedal with 2 foots was better than the reaction hush, though
the reaction works pretty well too, but requires a higher setting
it has a heavy metal casing and it's like $50 brand new!

I'd love to try the new rocktron guitar silencer

don't get why they're so underrated nowadays
they used to be the major noise killing reference before ISP came out

Did anyone vote for the ISP Decimator yet?

I love mine, works perfectly.

I have an ISP now but have had the NS-2. They're both excellent. I think the NS-2 is under-rated and the ISP is over-rated. Use either one and you're good.

The NS-2 most definitely sucks some gain from your tone.

My findings as well, using both for years.

The ISP had the popularity/hype behind it on many of the gear forums, which can cause potential buyers to have unrealistic expectations.
