Best non-Kemper/Axe digital modeler

Hey all,

recently moved to NYC, and trying to find some time to practice. I can't turn on a tube amp in my place, period, there's a baby upstairs. It'll be a hot minute before I get a practice space or a Kemper. What's the best Line6 type product for practicing at home? Always avoided them, and realizing I don't know a thing about them now that I need one.

The Eleven Rack is worth looking into- cool tones and a great buy on the used market :yes:
 
I really like my Line 6 Flextone III. It was much improved from the previous Flextone products. I purchased it used for the same reason, great for quiet practice. I think it gets a bad rap from people who have really never put one through its paces. It's really easy to use and you can dial up great tones without a lot of tinkering.
 
eleven rack looks cool, but I'd rather not spend that much, as I'll likely move up to a Kemper if I keep going in this direction, and would rather put the money there. Looking more for a non-amp version, so I think the Pod HD series looks about right. anyone got any advice as to which one (300/400/500/Pro)?

I picked up a 400 mint in the box off GC used website for $179. The 500 has a few more options like you can run dual amp chains but it's more money and bit more of a learning curve. the 400 can be had cheaper because everyone goes for the 500. If you don't need foot switches on the floor the desktop HD is nice and more compact. They all can be edited through the PC which is nice.

Yes. I use mine mono,through an amp so I didn't see the benefit.
 
I have always had this as a backup. Way back before Axe FX I was playing this unit through a VHT 50/2/50 and it sounded great.

Just around $300 and has some cool options. If you want to run headphones, you can :D
 
If you are up for a software plugin try Guitar Rig 5 Pro. If a computer is involved at all this makes it really easy to record and modify the sounds on screen. To my ears this is the best modeling plugin out there today.
 
If you want to keep using your tubes try the Two Notes LIVE. Load for amp, cab/mic IRs and head phone out. :)
 
How are the feelings around the Pod HD500 floorboard? It looks tempting cause it's so damn easy to lug around when you fly out to gigs.
 
I have a POD HD Desktop, and i'm not impressed with the factory presets. Maybe I just need to play a little more with the editor.

The factory presets are not that hot. Start with a basic tone and create your own or go to the line 6 custom tone website and download the user created patches. There's some pretty good ones on there.
