Rp1000 or GSP 1101 for real amp type sounds. Line 6 stuff sounds too artificial IMO.

real amp type sounds is what I'm after. I just want a good tone, not alot of efx gimmickry, as little "digital" sound as possible. delay and reverb on top of good tone, that's all. I do want to run a stereo rig though.

as far as the line6 stuff goes, I've only played through a Pocket Pod, which was not up to snuff, so kind of shooting in the dark here.

Had the HD500....it sounded good for low/mid gain applications, and the effects are good; lot of headroom on the clean stuff especially.
Not so much for the high gain stuff....it lacks depth and is very one dimensional. It's a nice effort but the decay that high gain tube amps have just isn't there. If you're looking for SS type distortion, it's there in spades, but otherwise no.

The update for the Soldano SLO was pretty badass, though. Lot of gain and saturation...I liked it the best out of all the high gain stuff, but ultimately went back to a 6505+ and a 2x12, and the only thing I miss was the easy recording capabilities and a couple of the delays.

Yamaha THR10....not only is the tone and feel scary awesome, but it also doubles as a monitor system, usb recording interface that can record DI and amp tracks simultaneously, jam-along system, comes with Cubase 6 and can run on batteries.

Imagine having a big tube rig sitting in a studio mic'd up and blasting, and you sitting in the control room listening to it through monitors. I think that's the best way I could describe the THR10 :rawk:

There are 2 new versions of the amp too - one high gain/metal oriented and the other a classic/vintage version. Might be worth checking them out if you can - I haven't had the chance yet.

I will tell you that I love my lil Yamaha THR10 as much as my big tube rigs though. Hands down the best practice amp there is IMO.

It's c63 and now officially accepted through Digitech. I downloaded from digitech.com but you can find it on mustbebeta as well.

This is a pretty good idea :D

Yamaha THR10x looks good. The MF/GC idea sounds like a good plan.

also, a few folks have pm'ed me, not trying to be rude by not responding, forum doesn't give me an option to reply. I'm assuming because I haven't posted enough yet.

Here's a short metal clip I recorded with my original THR10 just a couple hours after unboxing it.

Direct to my laptop through USB; no post EQ. Bass also recorded through THR's bass model

Use a good guitar tube preamp or line out from a head into Cab IRs abd Efx.

Cheaper and more portable is a Guitar Tube Preamp into a Pod XT with amp modeling OFF and use the built inCab Sims and EFX and it will sound good into phones or just about anything .

And it will sound like tubes not like a POD.

gsp 1101!!!

lotta votes for this one^. since I'm not keen on spending the skrill for the eleven rack while in testing-this-idea-out mode, the GSP is looking like lead contender. at least based on votes. coupla youtube vids make Yamaha THR10X seem like a good option, too. no one really cheerleading the POD stuff.

I have a Digitech RP1000 and I owned a POD HD500 and the amp models on the Digitech were way more realistic feeling to me. The Plexi model and the 5150 models were scary good. The effects aren't shabby either.

Dude....I knew nothing about this amp until seeing this thread but have to say your clip sounded bad ass!

Love my GSP1101 for fx (with c63) and I can get great cleans and decent OD tones out of it. I have yet to get a good high gain tone though. For the most part it stays in the rack with the Rhodes though so I don't mess with it often.
