You will get a million different opinions on a thread like this. What are you looking to accomplish? See my earlier post. Or, go spend a million dollars and get into the OD/Boost flipping game until you find what YOU like. Been there done that several times.

I can't comment on the DSL, but I use a maxon od808 or Timmy to boost the gain channel of my silver jubilee. I prefer the maxon for leads and the Timmy for rhythm.

I like to use the grean/crunch channel on my dsl with the gain on about half so I can use the volume to clean things up and then use the overdrive to kick it up to higher gain territory. Iv tried:
Bad monkey- ok pedal but somthing to me feels/sounds artificial about it.
TC Spark- Does the clean volume thing for a boost well but doesnt seem to work great when you are wanting to add gain to the mix
EH Soulfood- Very good overdrive but can get a little bright very quickly with the dsl
Maybe im too picky lol!
Thanks for all the suggestions!

DSL plenty of high mids. A KTR or Klon type circuit will work nicely but if you want tighter then you need a TS type circuit which is harder as it adds a mid hump which may or may not gel with the DSL. My fav is the Cussack Screamer and I have had most or all of the ones posted plus some. It has the mid hump but is is smooth and more musical.

Getting ready to order an sd1 to try since i dont have one and everyone seems to like them with the marshalls and stumbled across a video of Pete Thorn demoing the od1x and man did he make it sound good! Anybody else like the od1x?

Yup. Check previous posts....

Yeah, like Gary(glip22) said, you're gonna get a bunch of opinions. If you buy an OD1X new you can try it for 30 days from most vendors. SD1 tends to take some low end away, but you don't play a Marshall for low end. OD1X has a mid hump but not near as much as the original, and lets you add low end as well. Very quiet pedal too.

Nobody suggested a simple EQ pedal? For a DSL, there's a ton of gain - all it may need is a boost via the EQ!

I did earlier, after my Ultimate drive I put an EQ pedal. Works great!

Just ordered a sd1 and od1x to try. We'll see how they work out.

Oh yeah, missed that. I like the EQ with NO gain pedal, especially on an already crunchy amp like the DSL.

Today: Timmy

Next week (once it arrives): maybe the Thorpy Gunshot (I'm hoping ;) )

I have tried so many pedals. Turns out to be pretty simple for me. If you are playing into a clean amp and looking for a OD, distortion, boost it becomes a whole different game.
But for boosting an already driven amp it's easy. Get two pedals and call it day. A tube screamer and a klon. If you want to throw a Timmy in there or a Koko boost have fun. After going through I cannot count how many, I stuck with the KTR, Cussack Screamer which beat out all TS types for me(Maxons, Green Rhino, SD-1 Analogman,Keeley, POT, KOT, and many many more, and a Timmy. Move on to your next obsession.  Point uis you need two pedals in the TS or Klon type. Best for boosting

heres a little bit of a specific question - what pedal would you guys recommend to fatten up (and slightly add a bit of sag) for a jcm800 type amp that is already got good levels of gain (i.e. don't need to so much add gain but give it just a tiny bit of 'plexi' fat an juiciness)

I've had so many. I stopped at the TIM and Timmy. I like they they don't have a mid bump...as if a Marshall amp needs more mids lololol.
