heres a little bit of a specific question - what pedal would you guys recommend to fatten up (and slightly add a bit of sag) for a jcm800 type amp that is already got good levels of gain (i.e. don't need to so much add gain but give it just a tiny bit of 'plexi' fat an juiciness)
For that I'd try a Wampler Pinnacle, although I don't know how you'd dial the gain that low...might have to dial the amps gain back a bit...

Best pedal I've ever used.

does it significantly color things or is it fairly transparent - i don't necessarily need that amp-in-the-box thing, since I'm already going into a marshall

Its not an amp in the box/preamp type pedal, and I think you can dial everything back enough for what you need. I used it into a 72 JMP that I had, worked very well.

DigiTech hardwire CM2. I have been using one in front of a 2203 circuit and it is killer. I set it on the vintage voicing.

What works best for me and my 2203 is either Maxon OD808 or TC BLD. The Maxon gives more of that 80s metal flavour while the TC goes all the way up to Meshuggah/Fear Factory etc.
